Why SRP in 9mm ?Recovering from Covid over the weekends. Finally gained back my strength these past couple of days and got back on the press.
Sized, decapped, and primed 500 9mm with ginex srp using the lee albp, running lightly lubed 9mm cases through a decapper sizer, and priming on the upstroke with the lee safety prime.
Ginex srps are a bit oversized. Needed to give the upstroke a good shove to properly seat the primers in.
SPPs ran dry a while ago. Been tapping my srp stock ever since and they go bang in all my guns except for a Taurus model 80 that only likes federal spp.Why SRP in 9mm ?
I also switched back over to CCI SRP / SPMP for my latest run of my 9mm yesterday. I'm not out of SPP, but I have a ton of SRP / SPMP, and it all works fine in anything that's not a revolver. (Well, I did have a 1911 that was balky, but a stronger hammer spring and a reduced power FP spring solved that quite neatly).SPPs ran dry a while ago. Completed some test loads with 9MM 124 grain Berrys plated FN and 115 grain plated E-Treme RN. 9MM new to my loading process as I have been loading 40 S&W for years.
On the same boat as you with 223 and I also have a virtually unlimited supply of 300 blk cases with the mark 7 trimmer set up. I haven't had the need to convert to 300 blk as it seems like I keep winding up with more 300 blk cases than i know what to do with as I usually come across 300 blk from my usual range gobbles. Havent had the incentive to load either since I pretty much stocked up on both for a while.I also switched back over to CCI SRP / SPMP for my latest run of my 9mm yesterday. I've also recently spent a bunch of time trying to organize my powder, brass, primers, and bullets using some of those plastic bins from Costco. I should have done this a long time ago, because it's definitely much easier to find things now.
I apparently have what is a lifetime supply of 223 brass, so that's cool... wish there was a cheap way to sort it by headstamp for conversion to 300 BLK or 22 TCM, doing by hand is kind of a nightmare.
300 BLK is what I run in my night vision-oriented rifle... round count isn't tremendously high, but it does see some use. One twist is that it's a little easier to run two loading toolheads, one set for subs, one set for supers... gets expensive. On the same boat as you with 223 and I also have a virtually unlimited supply of 300 blk cases with the mark 7 trimmer set up. Just waiting on my can to get out of NFA jail at this point to explore loading for subs. Been trying to catch up on reloading 9mm as of late though as that always likes to run in short supply if you dont pay attention to it.
I don't - I had some old stock Remington Benchrest primers that I bought from a guy, and my current primers are CCI 450 - small rifle Magnum.Which primers are you using?
ETA: Reread and see that you are removing the crimps. Do you use Winchester primers by chance?
It's certainly possible. I'm going to have to pay close attention to my fired brass in my next trips to the range to see what's going on, and if it's a problem with cutting out too much crimp, I'll simply recycle the brass and start amassing more 556 brass the same way I did before - there's no real shortage of once-fired 223.I've only swaged out crimped pockets, could you be cutting too much of the crimps out?
I stopped cutting out the crimps on my brass due to primers loosing up too soon. Since I switched to swaging, I have not had any primers come loose. It's certainly possible. I'll use my least favorite gun as the guinea pig gun to see if I can come to a conclusion about what's going on. I really don't think I'm loading too hot - at least not according to what I've read about what other people are loading for their rifles, both AR and bolt. Loading well within a safe margin is part of my standard practices of reloading - there's no sense in loading hot if all I'm doing is punching paper.
