Thanks, the Apex is an aftermarket trigger I bought and installed. It improves an already great trigger.

I have to stop procrastinating and apex my ppq. Love it in my m&p, really made it a great trigger.

    Walther MPK 9mm SMG

Did anyone (besides me) stationed in Germany get to shoot one of these while they were there? We shared our range with the Polizei and they were always more than happy to share their weapons with us whenever we were out there together. The same could be said for all of our NATO allies but the US Army had a special working relationship with the West Berlin police. They had our backs and we had theirs. We were both terror targets of the Baader-Meinhof and Red Brigade maggots and that's probably why were so cooperative. I had nothing but respect for the no-******** way they tended to handle things before they got out of hand.

Some of the toughest mofos were the Zoll-Douane (Customs Police) who did Wall Patrol with us. They drove around in their little VW buses dressed like...train conductors. Heavily armed train conductors, that is. In addition to their Walther P1 sidearms, each also had an MPK. I had seen them being carried by security at Frankfurt and Berlin (Tegel) airports but I never got an up close looky loo until I was on Wall Patrol and I noticed one of the Zoll officers with us was admiring the M60 mounted on my Jeep. I smiled and nodded at his MPK and the next thing I knew, he was in the back of the Jeep, behind the 60, wearing my steel pot and I was holding his MPK that he politely unloaded and cleared before handing to me. Jesus.

The MPK was the first true pistol caliber SMG I ever shot and it made quite an impression on me. Cyclic rate of fire was supposedly 550 rpm but, I swear, the one I shot dumped an entire 32 round clip in (what seemed like) two seconds. Yikes. Just. Yikes.

Home at last! Just spent the last 30 minutes cleaning and lubing all the essential parts. Barrel is like a mirror inside after getting all the grease out.

Thought I would just clean it up and wait until tomorrow morning to go to the range but...there was no way in heck I could wait!

    PvtDBN6.jpg

10 yards, 50 rounds of Geco 115gr FMJ

I shot exactly 100 rounds of Geco 115gr FMJ without one malfunction whatsoever. Warmed-up with 20 rounds at 5 yards to determine POI, then another 30 at 7 yards to test both magazines. They worked great. I obviously lubed all the right parts because the P38 was like butter.

The SA trigger-pull was a lot better than I remembered my previous P38's being. I guesstimate somewhere right around 4.5-5 lbs. without a trace of creep or over travel. It was pretty amazing. While I was taking a five minute break between boxes of ammo, the management at HTC asked if they could make a video of me shooting the P38 and if it was OK to use it in one of their upcoming marketing campaigns.

    Say what?

Sure, why not. Considering it was the first time in 30+ years since I had shot a P38 and that the entire range staff at HTC was watching while I did it, I thought I did OK. It sure is a great pistol! :party29:

You did well with your online shopping via GunBroker.

Lol, must have been quite a scene at Heritage. :D

Thank you! Yeah, no pressure at all! I'm looking forward to seeing what they do with a video of my ugly mug? Hopefully, they focused more on the pistol and less on the shooter!

But I'll be available for autograph sessions. Contact my publicity manager, Blaster229, to arrange an appearance. :lol2:

I've done well on GB this year. Both times, I called the sellers directly, had extended conversations and felt pretty confident that the guns were being represented accurately. I'm not crazy about auctions. I prefer to negotiate from a buy-it-now price and work down from there.

I thought someone would enjoy this - my P38 came with a Walther price list from 1968. Obviously, the prices are obscenely cheap but it makes ya think about what a dollar was worth back then:

Hmm - according to http://www.dollartimes.com/inflation/inflation.php?amount=1&year=1966, $1 in 1966 is equivalent to $7.44 today. So - a P38 new in today's dollars would be 260 X 7.44 = $1934.40. Looks to me that Walthers were VERY expensive back in the day.

In contrast - someone was saying that a surplus M1 went for - what? Something like $60 in the 60's? So that's like $450 today?

Anyways - that is very interesting - thanks for sharing.

That $260 was for the engraved version :)

Standard price looks to be $120 in either 9mm or .22LR and the conversion kit alone was $100 !! (slide, barrel insert, 2 mags).
Nowadays the .22LR complete pistols sell for at least 3-4 times the equivalent 9mm so that would have been a good investment.

PPQ Q5 Match on it's way. Post pics after I pick that puppy up....
    tj
Looking forward to this. Was doing a bit of research on the Q5 and was pleasantly surprised that one can move the 5-inch slide onto other PPQs, both the M1 and M2, as it basically uses an M2 frame from the 4-inch gun. Obviously moving the trigger assembly (which has polished components relative to the stock PPQ, as well as blue coloration for parts of it) is more work, but for those that prefer the trigger guard integrated paddle mag releases, it's a nice option. Similarly, those that have a lot of M1 mags can continue to use them.

Unfortunately, Walther doesn't sell slide assemblies for any of the PPQs, so one needs to buy the whole gun.

Because he's quite the people person, so perfect for the role, lol.

At least he's back from his recent self-imposed sabbatical, that is if he wanders out of the EDC watch thread.

Nice looking Q5! Might have to consider adding this to my current PPQ family :)

I picked up a Walther P1 on a trade here on MDS a couple of years ago and it has turned into one of my favorite guns to shoot. Don't think I'll ever get rid of this one!
