    1. Reminder: Fairfax City Planning Commission to wrap up hearings on gun control tonight, turnout requested
    ************************************************************

We need to show up in Fairfax City tonight, Monday, June 13, to oppose a new zoning regulation that would prohibit FFL transfers or gun repairs from a home.

    Time: 7:00 PM

    Location:

    Fairfax City Planning Commission
    City Council Chambers
    10455 Armstrong Street, Room 100
    Fairfax City, VA

This is still a HEARING, so we will be allowed to speak.

We are asking that the Planning Commission drop the prohibition on having a home business for gunsmiths and those doing simple FFL transfers.

There are already ordinances banning retail sales from homes, but an FFL transfer is NOT a retail sale. A person simply shows up to pick up a gun they previously purchased from a gun dealer elsewhere. The FFL holders runs the required federal background check and then releases the firearm. The FFL does collect a fee for the transfer itself and the background check.

At the hearing, look for someone handing out GSL stickers.

    !!!UPDATE!!!

YES! As usual, VCDL members turning out in numbers for a hearing have made a huge difference in the outcome.

Member Henry Sheard found a document that I didn’t see for tonight’s Fairfax City Planning Commission hearing. The Commission has struck out the restrictions on either gun sales/FFL or gunsmithing from a personal residence!

For this reason, I am no longer calling for a turnout at tonight’s hearing. We still need a few people there to make sure that the fix remains in place and is not removed or modified and report back to me at the conclusion of the meeting.

We will also need some volunteers to make sure the fix remains in place tomorrow when the full City Council votes on the zoning ordinance.

Here is a link to the proposed zoning regulation:

    http://fairfax.granicus.com/MetaViewer.php?view_id=11&event_id=1428&meta_id=55236

Go to Appendix B and then look at the bottom of page 9 and the top of page 10 to see the strikeout.

    Update

    ***********************************************************
    3. Fairfax City defers hearing on zoning until July
    ***********************************************************

The Fairfax City Council decided to defer having a hearing on their modified zoning ordinance until their next meeting, on July 12. We will want a turnout at the public hearing to make sure that if City Council decides to put back in the prohibition on gunsmiths and FFLs having a home business, we will have people there to speak against any such restrictions.
