    **************************************************

Petition #1: Repeal the National Firearms Act

Petition #2: Repeal the 1986 Hughes Amendment (would allow machine guns made after 1986 to be purchased by citizens)

    2. Number of Virginia concealed handgun permits continues to climb!
    **************************************************

According to Virginia State Police Captain Tom Bradshaw, with who I communicate on legislative items, there are now 433,388 resident permits and another 21,336 non-resident. That is a total of over 450,000! Half a million, here we come!

One other important point. In the last two years the Virginia State Police have stopped lobbying for gun-control bills. They are now back to simply providing any information on firearms requested by the General Assembly. The change came with the retirement of a key person and I can't tell you how refreshing it is to have the State Police back as an unbiased resource to all sides.

After Hurricane Katrina, VCDL got the laws changed in Virginia to make sure that our right to keep and bear arms was in full force during an emergency. However, if you have to go to an emergency shelter, they can disarm you under current law. Many of you remember the nightmare of the Super Dome in New Orleans, I'm sure.

Delegate Wilt put in a bill, HB 2077, to at least partially fix that issue. That bill cleared the House and is now in the Senate.

It is important that you contact your Senator on this important bill, as there is some opposition that we must overcome…

In 24 hours 1,756 of you send emails to your Delegate in support of Senator Stuart's SB 1023. That's a nice start, but not where we need to be.

If you DIDN'T send that email yesterday or today, please do so now, as time is running short.

Remember, we need you to do this, especially if your Delegate is a Democrat!

Like in the Senate, this is one bill that many Delegates who are normally not good on guns, might well support. It is more about privacy than it is guns!
