    NRA Statement on Terror Watchlists

We are happy to meet with Donald Trump. The NRA's position on this issue has not changed. The NRA believes that terrorists should not be allowed to purchase or possess firearms, period. Anyone on a terror watchlist who tries to buy a gun should be thoroughly investigated by the FBI and the sale delayed while the investigation is ongoing. If an investigation uncovers evidence of terrorist activity or involvement, the government should be allowed to immediately go to court, block the sale, and arrest the terrorist. At the same time, due process protections should be put in place that allow law-abiding Americans who are wrongly put on a watchlist to be removed. That has been the position of Sen. John Cornyn (R.-Tex.) and a majority of the U.S. Senate. Sadly, President Obama and his allies would prefer to play politics with this issue.

If they are going to negotiate with Democrats on this issue, negotiation is a two way street. What do law abiding gun owners get out of it? How about the ability to buy firearms in any state after undergoing a NICS check?

If the NRA is looking to sell us out, they have an odd way of doing it, received this, and of course used the tool to contact my reps. Trump knows a lot of conservative folk are on the fence about voting for him, I expect he's more than likely meeting to work with the NRA instead of against them.

Don't let Congress pass anti-gun measures in wake of recent tragedy!
Your Action is Needed NOW! NRA has just learned that Senators Schumer, Feinstein and other anti-gun elected officials are going to offer several anti-gun bills and amendments this week in the U.S. Congress, possibly as soon as today!

These measures are wide-ranging and include an attempt to reinstate the failed federal ban on semi-automatic firearms, commonly referred to as the “assault weapons ban.”

It doesn’t matter that the Clinton gun ban did nothing to reduce crime. This is about YOUR freedoms and YOUR Right to Keep and Bear Arms. But it doesn’t stop there. In fact, one amendment will attempt to strip the Second Amendment Rights from those on secret government lists while another will require federal registration and licensing of all gun owners.

And, they’re also planning on pushing for increased federal funding of anti-gun research.

This is an anti-gun package that we must defeat.

What’s obvious is that many who want to destroy our firearm freedoms are using the terrorist attack in Orlando to push their anti-gun agenda. They’re trying to strike while the nation continues to grieve and many Americans look for answers. It’s clear that Obama’s continued failure to protect us from radical terrorists is the problem and leadership is what we actually need, not gun control on law-abiding Americans.

But they’d rather blame you as a law-abiding gun owner than make Obama answer for his failures in the global war on terror. We can’t let them succeed in this depraved attempt to politicize a tragedy so they can destroy our freedoms.

You can reach your U.S. Representative and Senators by calling 202-224-3121 or clicking “Take Action”. Contact other gun owners you know to tell them this threat is real. Action is needed now.

I'd suggest that we all take a breath until Trump and NRA-ILA make a joint statement and release.

The echo chamber is in full reverberation about this and guess whose name isn't being talked about, and it probably won't be unless we shut up long enough for the noise to subside. Meanwhile, Ben Rhodes is having a field day ...

Obama aide Rhodes claims they built 'echo chamber' to sell Iran deal

“We created an echo chamber,” Rhodes said, when asked about arms-control experts that appeared at think tanks and were then used as sources for hundreds of reporters – whom the article described as “clueless.”

“Most of the outlets are reporting on world events from Washington. The average reporter we talk to is 27 years old, and their only reporting experience consists of being around political campaigns. That’s a sea change. They literally know nothing,” he said.

It's not about the Iran deal this time, but something even more important to our survival as a free people. I guess there was some truth in the meme from 'Field of Dreams' ...

The WaPo just belched this out. Welcome to the echo chamber.

    From their Evening Edition email:
Trump signals openness to changing gun laws

The presumptive Republican presidential nominee and some vulnerable GOP lawmakers say they’re open to changing the nation’s gun laws, raising the possibility that the political tide may be shifting on an issue that has divided Americans for years.

From the actual article at https://www.washingtonpost.com/poli...e76e11b12_story.html?wpisrc=nl_evening&wpmm=1
In wake of Orlando shootings, gun control getting a fresh look from GOP

Presumed Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump and some vulnerable GOP lawmakers signaled Wednesday that they are open to changing the nation’s gun laws, raising the possibility that the political tide might be shifting on an issue that has sharply divided Americans for years.

Mass shootings similar to the Orlando massacre that killed 49 people this week have quickly sparked a national outcry for congressional action in the past, usually followed by an intense pressure campaign by gun-rights supporters urging lawmakers to focus elsewhere.

But the debate launched this week could be different, thanks mostly to Trump.

The presidential candidate’s renewed focus on gun laws goes against GOP orthodoxy, which generally considers Second Amendment issues to be settled. His attention to the issue comes in an election year when incumbent lawmakers may feel compelled to respond to Trump’s critique that nothing gets done in Washington.

...Trump’s announcement, made via Twitter, came as Sen. Rob Portman (R-Ohio), who is locked in a closely watched reelection battle, told Ohio reporters that he is ready to back a federal ban on weapons sales to anyone on a terrorist watch list if a compromise can be reached. Sen. Pat Toomey (R-Pa.), who has worked on bipartisan gun-control legislation in the past and is also facing a tough reelection, said he is working with senators in both parties and a gun-control group led by former New York Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg to come up with such a measure.

Oh, here's a fun fact from the same article:
The federal terrorism watch list included some 800,000 people as of September 2014, the most recent data available.

So how's DACA working out, anyway?

    So ponder this:

Under current law, individuals who are known or suspected terrorists and do not fall into the one of the nine prohibited purchaser categories can legally purchase weapons. While the FBI is notified when individuals on the terrorist watch list apply for a background check through the National Instant Criminal Background Check system, it does not have the authority to block the sale.

According to the GAO, between February 2004 and December 2015, known or suspected terrorists initiated a background check to purchase a weapon 2,477 times—they successfully passed that check 2,265 times, or 91 percent.

Direct from the mouth of our favorite horse. I wasn't aware that the FBI gets notification - if that's the case, what else do they need? If the FBI decides that the guy is a threat, then they simply investigate him. We're talking about 2,500 notifications per decade, and even fewer individuals. The FBI should just do their jobs.
