Weather and schedule permitting, a group of us shoot 5 stand at Hopewell Fish on Thursdays, The group usually consists of my brother, me, father in law and wife's nephew (sometimes). No pun intended, we have a blast and I think if my wife tried it, she'd enjoy it as well. Currently she isn't a gun person but did say if I found a shotgun that fit her, she'd try it. (But without buying a shotgun for her first.) I had her shoulder my 20g 625 Citori Field and with a l.o.pull of 14.25, it was still too big for her. After a lot of research I THINK a TriStar Viper Youth 20 gauge might fit her and be soft on recoil (another thing she's worried about).

Now with all of that out of the way... Anyone have one that would be willing to meet at HFG on a Thursday to shoot clays and let her try it? In exchange for letting her try, I'd supply pay for your round and supply her ammo (factory ammo). If anyone does, PM me and we'll coordinate.

    Thanks

Your brother is a "she"? Sorry, just busting grammatical balls.

She is maybe your daughter, or maybe wife? I can say quite honestly, shooting .410 is extremely gentle. I am not a shotgunner, aside from being a turkey hunter. I have used a Mossberg 835 Ulti mag for years, and just last year switched to a semi-auto .410 because I got tired of that gun beating my F'd up shoulder(complete rotator tear, un-repairable). It has the recoil, less than that of a .556 AR.

ETA: I forgot to mention, my .410 is a Tristar.

PG trap and skeet rents Beretta shotguns. They come in a variety of sizes. Might want to take her there to try different sized shotguns instead of guessing and hoping someone has that shotgun.

The Tristar Viper is a nice gun but it is light. I had to put a couple of ozs of shot in the butt stock to balance it out. Mine was sold some time ago so I can't help with lending.

I have a 12G Tristar Viper G2, but in 12G, and shooting target loads, it's a pretty soft shooter IMHO. I have a Kicks ported choke as well, but it's been a great shotgun. If you can find a 20G I think you'd be pretty happy with it. I love mine.

I also have a TriStar Viper, but in 12ga. I can tell you that it is a reliable and economical gun and more reliable than most of the other offerings out there in the same price range. TriStar has done a very good job of enforcing their QA standards at the factories in Turkey that they use for production and they stand by their products as well. The 12 shoots plenty light with target loads, so I figure the 20 would be somewhat similar. One thing to remember is that the 20 is going to be lighter, so depending on the ammo, it can kick just as much as the 12. I use mine as my canoe/kayak gun for duck and goose hunting on the non-tidal rivers for duck season (where allowed by law) since, if I lose it in the river, I won't be out as much as my other shotguns. It also use it as my loaner for buddies to hunt with. My Nephew has taken plenty of pheasants with it, and upon his graduation from high school next year, it will become his (graduation present). At that point, I'll buy another because they're just good running machines through and through.
