Override: Missouri House Votes to Nullify Federal Gun Control

Today, the Missouri State House of Representatives sent more than just a message, they passed would could arguably be the strongest state-level protection of the right to keep and bear arms in modern times. The vote was 109-49

By overriding Governor Jay Nixon’s veto of House Bill 436 (HB436), the 2nd Amendment Preservation Act, the Missouri state legislature gave a resounding “No!” to all federal gun laws, rules, regulations and orders – past, present and future.

Sources close to the Tenth Amendment Center say that the override vote in the State Senate is going to be even more difficult, where leading republicans have taken, as one source said, “The Nancy Pelosi version of the Constitution where federal law is supreme, and there’s nothing we can do about it but wait for federal courts to limit federal power.”

I saw just now that this lost in the Senate by one vote. The swing votes being the two top repubs (RINOs). They cited 1A infringement for their votes. Anyone care to elaborate on how this affected 1A?

    I see a pattern ...

State legislature 'Houses', as well as our House of Representatives in DC, all seem to grasp the concept of our consitiutional freedoms being protected by 2A, and they vote accordingly. Then their respective Senate votes to either narrowly defeat or work some backroom deal to defeat any pro-gun measure.

It happened in CO, as it happened in MD, and now MO. But unlike CO, MO doesn't have statewide recall ... they just need to remove them the old fashion way ... tarred and feathered on a rail. :innocent0 To lose the populous DEMAND of the House by two RINO votes in the Senate, only draws a tight aim on those who used twisted logic to justify their votes.

Senators voted 22-12 to override Gov. Jay Nixon's veto of the legislation, failing to reach the required two-thirds threshold by a single vote. Senate President Pro Tem Tom Dempsey and Majority Leader Ron Richard were the only two GOP members to vote against the legislation, which declared that any federal policies that "infringe on the people's right to keep and bear arms" shall be invalid in Missouri.

Saying that they voted to protect 1A is a red herring.

Thank STL for this one. Mayor Slay (perfect name) and Chief Dotson of STLMPD were pushing hard to keep the veto in place.

Location alone makes this a tough sell in STL. A Mexican cartel has set up shop across the river in Granite City, gives them a jump-off point to sell in STL and move distribution up to Chicago. GCPD and ISP can try to stop them, but are frankly ill equipped to do so. STLMPD has had corruption problems for years, the rank and file are kept busy in the free-fire zone that is North City, and scumbags can always hightail it across the river into the Detroit Junior that is East St. Louis. Crime is to the point that STL tried to preempt state CCW law. That failed at the governor's desk. State law allows for local preemption of open carry, but not concealed.

Short version - most of Missouri wants states' rights, STL powers-that-be show a tendency to go the Chicago/NYC route on firearms, and the bill was poorly written to begin with. It'll be back next year.
