Shot this 3 round group yesterday at the Indian River County Public Shooting Range in Sebastian, FL. 100 yards, no wind, same hole. 168 grain FGMM. Best group I've ever shot... Ever.

I need to bring it up a minute, but I'm very excited about how this new rifle/stock combo is performing.

    Showoff :mad54:

    Seriously though, nice shooting! :thumbsup::D

Isn't the caliber of the bullet subtracted from extreme spread when calculating the group size? That would make a 0.6 group actually 0.292 if you were shooting a .308 caliber bullet.

extreme spread deals with muzzle velocity of a given load. it has nothing to do with group size. it's the calculation of the slowest recorded velocity subtracted from the fastest.

Ok... then isn't group size calculated by subtracting the caliber of the bullet?

    My humble yet effective submission.

Savage Hog Hunter in .308 wearing a Choate Stock, EGW 20 MOA base, and a Bushnell Elite 3200 10X scope.

So I got the hog hunter back out testing more loads and I shot a couple great 4 shot groups but the monkey behind the damn thing kept screwing one shot up.

.484 outside to outside for the first 4.... Some jackass pulled the last shot ;). Including the pull I believe it was a .980 still not bad but pisses me off none the less.

LC Brass, 4895, and a Nosler 155 blem. Temp mid 70s, light rain.

I was going to update, but that's not going to happen until this motherfvcking barrel nut on my Savage decides to break loose.

6 hours, and nothing yet. I need a drink.

Short of an oxy-acetylene torch, tried that already (half-hour with heat gun). Nada.

I'll try it with an action wrench and the barrel nut tool later this week. Cutting the barrel nut is my last option.

You want to heat the nut, but not the part it is screwed to.

Heat makes the nut expand. As long as the part that it is screwed to does not get hot, the nut should be looser.

You may also be able to cool the part it is screwed onto (barrel?) with ice or canned air (turn can over).

If the nut screws into the action, heat the action, cool the nut.

    Understood.

    Brad,

I've been in this situation and used a small butane pencil torch to heat the nut...

On Thursday I'll have someone stopping by with an action wrench - I'm hoping it was just my barrel vise wasn't able to get enough of a bite on the barrel (varmint contour) when I was giving the barrel nut a whack with the dead-blow.

If we can't get it loose with an action wrench and a barrel nut wrench, then I'll have to come up with another option - because I don't have the patience to fight this thing every step of the way. Then again, I'm hard-headed and stubborn as hell.... :)
