They <Winfield> still drilled holes in the Johnson receiver for the scope mount though. Everything else is more or less bolt-on fixable. The barrel is a commercial job and finding a correct original 30-06 Johnson barrel is nigh on impossible. Same with the stocks, but very good repros are available. This one looks to be polished and blued, though, and there's no coming back from that.

I saw this someplace (I can not remember where)

If I remember the story guy painted it blue for his kid, sh she would shoot.
    (Or something like that)

Thurmont. The guy helped his daughter refinish it. She shoots that, her AR and has also helped with sign-up a the garand matches.
The barrel band and some other parts are sparkly silver.

There are bubbafications and then there are bubbifications... Here is mine. The purists will shout that what I did to this C&R CZ-82 is sacrilege. To my way of thinking, I took the ugliest of three CZ-82s I own, had it Cerakoted and bought a nice pair of grips to turn it into one of the nicest handguns I own (my opinion, of course! :) ). It is the only C&R I have "bubbafied" and I have no regrets whatsoever.

The CZ has grips on it that can be put right back to original, so long as the originals were saved. Vz. 82s are notorious for some having really leperous finishes on them. There's a cerakote color that's a very good match to what the original should have looked like. In a case where a firearm has a coating, rather than an oxidized (blued) finish, putting a matching coating on it isn't a sin ... so long as the poor-quality original is chemically removed, rather than mechanically removed with abrasives.

Forgot about this one. 1952 Colt Super 38 with 50's-era fancy target grips and compensator.

Didn't you ditch the grips and compensator to make it original again? Seem to recall the thread you started when you got the gun

Yup. Thought it deserved a spot here, too :innocent0
Because of the tall rear sight it still needs the compensator for shooting, although I still haven't gotten a chance to try it out.

I don't think all modifications should be called bubba'd. Some are actual I.provements in appearance and/or performance of the gun. Just my .02

Nope ... not liking a bubba. As I've always said here:
    • Preserve
    • Conserve
    • Restore
    • Replicate

You do the least amount necessary, according to the type of firearm and the condition. If you have a firearm that was coated to begin with (rather than blued), and that coating is badly deteriorated to where the metal underneath is no longer protected (because it's not blued), restoring with a coating that closely replicates the original isn't doing a bubba job on it.

    Nice try, though, Hi-Torque! :innocent0

Now we're getting into the realm of what the term, "bubba-ed" means to any given individual. I think that any "improvement" that changes the original configuration and appearance of the firearm is heading off into bubbaland.

For example: I've got an Argentine Sistema that looks rather good, but someone (talented) put better sights onto it. In the process, they milled the slide a bit to get the fore-sight mounted properly. It's actually my favorite .45 caliber shooter, but it's a definite bubba job. The workmanship is excellent, but it can no longer be put back to original, and it's no longer in its original configuration. It's "improved", so far as being a better shooter, but it's bubba-ed in terms of being an original C&R pistol.
