    Someone help me figure this out. I received the K-11 that I ordered from SOG. The list states "all matching". I can't see a serial number on this thing but I know nothing about these rifles. The only common number I see is 9. Overall, the rifle looks to be in very nice shape and I think I have an old (original) sling, but the import mark sucks my ass.

    Check the stock numbers once you get it out of the wood. The stocks are also stamped in the barrel channel. You might go post that one on the Swiss Rifles board.

    I think you hit the jackpot and got serial #9, I would ask over on the Swiss Rifles Board to make sure as UpperMarlboroMan suggested. If it is #9 I would say your handpick fee was well spent.

    He could have one of these:

    Model 1911 Carbines (Karabiner)
    Converted from Model 1889/1900 Short Rifles and Model 1905 Cavalry Carbines
    Year Quantity Serial numbers
    1913 1000 1-1000

    Here's what the man says:

    "What you have was born in 1901 as a 89/00 short rifle and modified later between 1912 and 1920 into a K00/11. When you take out the magazine and look into the magazine well you'll see the rails at the front and rear that held the old style 89/00 magazine."

    I have no idea what all of that means. From what I've read, approximately 18,750 1889/1900 short rifles were made. I have no idea how Guisan dated my rifle to 1901, and I still have no idea whether its serial number is 9 or something else.

    He dated the rifle as 1901 based of the serial number of 9. The number 9 is located in all of the usual spots where the swiss serialized their rifles, so your serial number is 9.

    Here are the years for the original configuration of the rifle.

    Model 1889/1900 Short Rifles (Kurze Gewehre)
    Year Quantity Serial numbers
    1901 5000 1-5000

    Yeah, I just stumbled upon the links listed in the swiss rifle forum. Wow, the 9th 89/00 short rifle made. That's pretty cool. I have a lot to learn about these things. I don't know whether it matters, from a value/collector standpoint, that this is not a true K11 but a K00/11.

    So, holy crap. Guisan just explained to me that first 20,000 K11s were all made from 89/00s, the next 10,000 were made from the 05 carbine, and the rest were new production. That means that I have the 9th K11 ever made. That's pretty cool.

    :party29::party29::party29::thumbsup:

    I would think that would sell for a hefty premium.
