Alright guys, I need some no b/s input here.

I work with a guy that has a mosin, and he wants to sporterize his mosin and see how good he can get it to shoot. His game plan is have the barrel cut down to 20 inches and recrowned. Then put it in an ATI stock and bed the action so the barrel is floated. He will be putting a scope mount on it and will toss a used nikon on it.

Last thing will be me doing some hand loads for it.

What kind of accuracy can he expect out of this rifle? I know it will not be a tack driver, but he wants to see what he can do on a budget.

    Been there, done that.

    Learn from my mistakes.

    Don't do it.

Seriously. Don't. SOOOOOOO not worth it.

For what you'd invest trying to make it kinda work, along with all the time involved in getting the horrendously shitty ATI stuff to be somewhat serviceable, you're better off just buying a used 700 or savage.

mythbusters proved you *CAN* polish a turd...but all you end up with is a shiny piece of shit.

is this some kinda April fool joke?

If he wants a sporter, sell me (or some other collector on here) his gun and then buy a sporter one GB that someone already dicked up. Then he can modify it all he wants.

To clarify my post. Its a bad idea.
