Hey guys, I recently got another Mosin, after years of missing my other one. This one is a numbers matching 1943 Izhmash 91/30 with all matching numbers and matching bayonet. The wood is spotless.

DISCLAIMER: I will NOT EVER bubba a rifle. It irks me beyond belief.

That said, for shits and giggles, I want to put a scope on it occasionally. Is there a type of mount that requires NO modification to the rifle? I dont want a scratch on this thing. I know some rifles you can pop out the rear sight and put a mount in place of it. Do they make one for these? All I see are UTG rails and stuff. Id like to mount a modern optic on it, as I frequently shoot my friends original sniper Mosin.

If there are no mounts like im looking for, does anyone have a pre-bubba'd Mosin, or one where the wood is terrible? I'm willing to buy a wrecked beater to tinker with. However I have a real problem with messing with history. If it's already bubba'd I'd like to make lemonade. Know what I mean? :party29:

Speaking of 7.62x54R....I missed a WICKED PSL deal. My friend sold one recently for FOUR HUNDRED BUCKS. Can't believe I missed that. :banghead:

It just uses the stock rear sight pin holes from what I read. It's the least invasive mount I've seen that I'd actually trust to hold a zero.

Sportsman's guide has rail that replaces the rear sight. I'm not good enough with the computers to link it. Was thinking about it for mine. It's a set that comes with the rail, a scope, rings, a rubber but pad, and a sling. The whole set up is under 65 bucks I think.

Started with just an antique receiver and barrel from a Finnish M39.

    Gray/Green zinc parkerized.

Burris fixed 4 power handgun scope.

Weighs 18 pounds and the muzzle brake makes the recoil feel like a .22 caliber.

It's good to be a Machinist.

I put a red dot on my 43Iz and then took it off.
Yes, punching the pin out was a pain and putting it back in was too. It did not punch out too easy. Yes it left a scratch but normal shooting puts scratches on it over time as well.

2 trips to the range and I pulled the Red Dot.

For a scope you need as said a pistol scope because the eye relief is pretty far.

If you put a scope on it, I think you'll need to also accurize it and shoot it slow, or all the accuracy you gain by the scope will be lost.
