How to Make Lye from Ashes for Soap-Making

Soap making in the woods can be almost automatic. Hardwood ashes are some of the best producers of lye. By Paul D. Matteoni ( The Mother Earth News Originally Published on Sep 19, 2020, Updated on Dec 29, 2021; links at end to publications on soap making)

Is there a schematic for a soap maker/scrapple cooker/still combo?

That would be enough get me through the rough spot between the Zombie Apocalypse and Rapture.

I'm working on an idea for a combination self-cleaning cat litter box, cartridge case/rock tumbler, and chicken-plucker.

Perhaps we could combine our ideas to make a Universal Must-Have Self-Sufficiency Machine?

I just need a little development capital...

One of my Foxfire books has a section on soap making, including "dripping the lye."
Foxfire series is an excellent resource:
