You have to stop that or I make the fonts BIGGER....that is the internet equivalent to a bull horn.. right beside your ear. LOL

Maintain sight alignment and know your bullet trajectory at various distances... grasshopper. This allows you to offset your aim.. high or low depending on distance.

now practice... wax in, wax out.

Of course I'm also expecting more accuracy from combat sight's then I should realistically expect.

Is this Al a real person or is he someones alter ego?

Chad.. AL is real.. AL also stands for Asian Lifeform.

This elusive specie predominantly hangs around its natural habitat.. gun ranges and gunshows. tends to shoot 22LR and often is seen with a beach umbrella. hangs out with Piston AR dudes with amnesia. Can be seen with a rape whistle on occasion, will eventually evolve into a range Nazi at some point. He is also scared of technology.. avoids computers, the internet and GPS. rumored to wear Foil underwear to keep big brother from scanning his mind.
and furthermore... AL( and his magical bench grinder) and many others like him, give gunsmiths.. job security.:D

    Trajectory 5" barrel, 45 acp
Load Coef 25y 50y 100y max point blank range
    .45 ACP (185 at 1000) .109 +2.2" +2.8" -3.7" 96
    .45 ACP (200 at 975) .138 +2.3" +3.0" -3.8" 97
    .45 ACP (230 at 850) .195 +2.6" +2.5" -6.9" 88

So Aim high at distances shorter than 25 yards, 6 o clock hold at 25-50 yards, aim high 4-6" at 100 yards

anything further... Run away or get a rifle.

That data is for maximizing the long range ability of the cartridge. Essentially its telling you if you zero the gun 2+ inches high at 25yds you minimize holdover at 100. It doesn't even tell you at what yardage you have true zero. It's useful but for a combat pistol the data below is better suited.

Here's an actual chart using the BC of a Hornady 230gr RN at 850fps with a 25yd zero.

Range Velocity Impact Drop ToF Energy Drift
    0 850 -0.8 0 0 369 0
    5 846 -0.4 0.1 0.02 366 0
    10 843 -0.12 0.32 0.04 363 0
    15 840 0.04 0.66 0.06 360 0
    20 837 0.09 1.12 0.07 358 0
    25 834 0 1.71 0.09 355 0
    30 831 -0.21 2.42 0.11 353 0
    35 829 -0.55 3.26 0.13 351 0
    40 826 -1.02 4.23 0.15 348 0
    45 823 -1.61 5.32 0.16 346 0
    50 820 -2.33 6.55 0.18 343 0

I assumed sight height of .8 above bore axis. If the sights are zero'd at 25yds the lowest point of the bullet is the instant it leaves the barrel (.8) until you hit the 40yd mark. The cartridge shoots flat enough that you should be able to use the same sight picture at all practical combat distances. If the gun is shooting 2 inches low at 10yds using a figure 3 hold, something is wrong. At the 10yd mark the bullet should only be .12 (1/8inch) low. 2 inches would be 16x worse than expected.

If someone want's to toy with the numbers the ballistic calculator is located at:

You should be, he's already talking of modifying a brand new Tac-Sol X-ring 10/22 reciever - with a band saw, I'm honestly not making that up...

SCAR - I don't have amnesia..., and I'm insult..., wait - what were we talking about?? :lol2:

    baumer, good data posted..

Now, the question is.. can you hit a coke can with a 1911, at 100 yards with open sights with 70% hit percentage?

that is what brad is trying to surpass here. A reminder to Brad, he may have forgotten.

I'm around 70% with the Hi-Power at that distance..., M&P - maybe about 40% for a soda can, and that's why I'm still asking questions and getting as much range time in as possible.

Yes, I did a mental facepalm when he said that today, basically a $400 reciever he's already thinking of hacking on to make it fit a certain stock/chassis. :sad20:

Why wouldn't he just buy a diff't stock/chassis if it doesn't fit a specific one???

We both know the answer to that, but we can not post it or discuss it. The things that we do for friends.:sad20:

    :lol2:

Hopefully he decides to get a stock that'll fit that new reciever PRE-Bandsaw..., Choate's got a dragunov style one for less than $80, it'd make more sense.

Then again, this is crazy al... :lol2:

brad, he already chopped up a pristine vz58, tiger stripped a 1911 with an lx1x recommended cold blue solution, turned a hi-point carbine into a ultra railed out doomsday prepper sniper rifle that shoots 9mm mak ammo, put a 1000 eotech MPO on a 200 dollar 22LR... etc.. and freakin four self destructing rem 597s in three months the list goes on... its not going to end anytime soon

    The inevitable truth right there.

I did almost laugh today though, he was looking at the bolt on the Tac-Sol and remarking about, 'I bet that extractor won't come flying apart like the 597's...' - I kept myself from laughing out loud, but it took a bit of restraint.

If we're lying, we're dying - right hand to god, it's the truth.

Hell, al just handling SCAR's 1911 is enough to make the slide/frame rust, I'm starting to think there is some truth to the Alien Lifeform angle...
