thanks.. im a lil dissappointed to find that the guide rod is plastic and just a tad in a heavy side... but still lov it..
Hi all I just wanted to tell you my experience with the 9mm Sig P226 Exchange Kit. First off I'm no expert but here are my observations during my first range experience.
-First off 9mm ammo is so hard to find that Gilberts instituted a 1 box policy per visit which blows.
-I did not do any initial cleaning with the barrel, slide, guide rod, and spring. However, i did an inspection to ensure they were no abnormality such as cracks. I did apply additional CLP on the slide rails.
-The magazine that came with the kit can only hold 10 rounds. It's essentially a shorter magazine with a plastic attachment that extends the total length of the magazine so that it will fit in the magazine well. Based on how difficult it was to put 10 rounds in this mag i would venture to say that the same spring on the standard 18 round mag was used.
-I did also purchase 2 SCT (Super Capacity Tactical) 20 round mags.
-Now the really fun part, shooting:
1.) The ammo used was 50 rounds of 147 grain Fiocchi 9mm rounds.
2.) Dealing with the kick of this pistol is a pleasure compared to my Glock 23 .40sw.
3.) One of the reason why I chose to buy this pistol was because of all the reviews stating it's reliability. Watching the review that Nutnfancy did on youtube sealed the deal for me (http://www.youtube.com/user/nutnfancy). Granted there is suppose to be a break-in period I had an issue where 50% of the time the pistol would jam from either Failure to Feed or Failure to Eject. I would say in total they were more Failure to Eject issues. However, with the 10 round mag I experienced a lot of Failure to Feed issue which may be due to the really stiff spring. During the break in period of my Glock 23 I never had a FTF problem but would experience 1-3 FTE issues for every 50 rounds. After shooting over 500 rounds and paying particular attention with limp-wristing I haven't had a single issue with FTE nor FTF.
4.) Another issue that I did notice was that after the last round was fired the slide never locked into place with any of the 3 mags that was used. So either the ammo was under powered or the recoil spring is too stiff. I wonder if there would be any chance that SIG mistakenly shipped a recoil spring not rated for 9mm ammo?
I will try to post pictures tonight.

try using different ammo if you still have same issue.. i still have to test my 40 this coming weekend.
I read that the 22lr for the glock 23 dont lock back after firing the last round. is this different with other manufacturers?
after the Mosquito I shot the other week, I dont think I will ever buy one, will jsut get the kit for the 220
just got back from the range.. the p229 did well with the xchange 40sw.. no fte, ftf or loading problems with wwb.. i just need to get use to it.. its shooting low (its just me i bet). shot atleast 75 rounds. the grip is a little small but manageable.
lx1x,
Hey, glad that your X change kit worked out well for you. I'm trying to find time to go to Gilbert to shoot with my setup. I'm going to first shoot with target ammo then with +p ammo. It will be interesting to see if the slide will lock back with the +p ammo.
Later,

try to put some grease on the slide rails... it may help w/ the movement of the slide a little.
w/ your last round not locking.. make sure you are not near or pushing down the locking switch.. i did that few time on my xdm until i get used to it.
on the guide spring.. what color did it came w/? i have the blue paint on the springs that i got for 40s&w.
