I am debating whether to pick up a 716 or a 17s. I can get either at a price that even if I hate it I could probably sell it for what I bought it for. I cannot wrap my head around spending an extra $850 for the scar considering I probably won't put many rounds through it in any given year (maybe 60-100). Is it really worth that much extra or would I be better off with getting a 716 and taking the $850 difference and picking up a ps90. Thanks

What do you plan on doing with it?

I own both and the SIG is really heavy, but well made. The recoil on the SCAR is pretty much non existent, so your frame size may also be a consideration.

A great compromise would be a POF in .308 I was going to buy a Sig 716. but when you look at the features like 3 LB trigger , Gas piston upper. 1 peice billet carrier and roller bolt cam feature.A much tighter upper to lower fit, Fluted barrel, Anti rotating pins, Its a much nicer gun ! Id love to have a Scar 17 but its not in the buget at the moment. Id give the POF a real hard look !! I think the POF is only about $150-$200 more than the Sig .

If you can shell out the cash, the SCAR is amazing. I shot a 17 for the first time today and loved it. Recoil is minimal and there was almost zero vertical climb with rapid fire.

you guys must have sissy shoulders. i dont feel much difference in the 716 vs a 5.56 round out of a lighter gun.

The SCAR definitely manages the recoil better than the 716; while the 716 has noticeably light recoil than a typical LR308. My biggest complaint with the 716 is the weight and its heavy trigger.

The POF308 is a great suggestion, but I'm pretty sure they're closer to $2500 and were really hard to find when I was shopping.

Big Dogs in VA has a few POF308s when I was there last week.

I was thinking $2600 for the 17s. Is that not realistic? What is a good pre craziness price and a good current price. Not sure it matters but I'm looking in fde.

    Pre-panic NIB?

    $2550 or so (excellent)

    $2600 - $2700 (average, about MSRP)

$2800 - $3000 (above average to premium range)

That's black though. FDE seems to include a slight bump.

Personally my price point is $2700 or better.

I was quoting pre-panic. Even though it looks like these will pass the copycat hurdle (maybe the brake will need modding, maybe not) I'm still looking for one pre-10/1. I'm hoping for normal prices sometime this summer. We'll see...

MSRP on a SCAR17 is 3300ish. I don't know where you're getting these numbers from.

Pre-panic I recall seeing new 17s for around $2700. Used ones (when they popped up) were around $2500. (This was like last summer I was watching them)

Pre panic I saw them going for $2500 outside of MD in the free states. I haven't seen them under 3k in MD pre panic. Now I wouldn't imagine them being at that price post panic.

SCAR 17s were about $2750 pre-panic.. SIG 716s $1650 if you could find one.

... then you drop another $600-1500 on glass and in the case of the SCAR $300 on a new trigger and another $400 on mags.

I just bought a BNIB Black SCAR 17S last week for $3000 cash. OP, I highly doubt you're going to find one for much less then that. I've been looking for a couple of months myself before I found a decent deal. FDE is even pricer. ~3300+

FYI - I initially wanted the FDE one as well. I decided against it because on average it's about $300 more and the color matching is not very good.
