Weird that this is my 500th post. Karma is coming!

Anyway, I was at Bass Pro today and saw they had 12g blank shells on the shelf.

This got my mind wandering in a bunch of directions....

Why would someone buy these? Was my first one.

Second (and reason for the post):

Is it legal to fire a blank round where one normally wouldn't be able to shoot live rounds (residential neighborhood for arguments sake)?

I wasn't entertaining the idea by any means, but the question nonetheless was still in my head.

    Thoughts?

    Bird control.

You fire them in the air to scare off flocks of geese and the like. Commonly used by places like airfields, golf courses, farms, etc... Anywhere with large flat areas where birds sit that need to be kept clear.

I knew a guy who had a mossberg that he said was used as a signal gun for boat races. He said it had only ever had blanks through it no live rounds.

    On a more serious note.

The correct answer would be: NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! Don't do it.

That is still DISCHARGING a firearm.

    Blank or Live Round.

Exactly. It's still considered discharging a firearm and is illegal.
