I've loaded Leatherhead coated bullets in 300 BLK. Just a little chamfer. I pulled them just for fun and they were fine. I crimp them very lightly.

    Thanks.

I just made up a couple hundred last night. Lee 309-180gn for my .30 cal rifles and Lee 358-158gn for my .38 special revolvers. For plinking, I use almost any bullet that comes out of the mold as the paint covers up the light wrinkles. I compared my plinking bullets with my match bullets in the 300 BO and the difference at 100 yards is only an inch difference in group size. Who cares when you are just paper punching. ;)

I use light to medium depending on the powder I am using. If I use Powerpro in the 38spl, it likes more bullet pull. I haven't seen any reduction in accuracy or more leading from adding more crimp, within reason of course.

...When expanding and crimping, you need to pull the bullets to make sure you're not breaking the coating, so I'm trying to find the right setting for the expanding and crimping.

    Where did you get that?

I loaded up 50 coated and 50 uncoated for a side-by-side in my 9x18. No feed or firing problems with either flavor.

The best advice I can give you about feeding problems is to be very particular about overall length - be sure it's within spec.

It wasn't for feeding/firing issues. I had heard that if you break the coating, you will increase the smoke. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong

The smoke is mostly from the grease used on bullets that are not jacketed with either polymer or copper.
I wouldn't sweat it with worrying about cracking the coating.
I've been using Bayou bullets for a while now and won't go back.

He is correct, you don't want to break through the coating when you crimp. It's good practice to pull a bullet and make sure. If you cut through the coating you may not see major problems, but you are more likely to get smoke and leading. I generally crimp just enough that my loaded round drops into a case gauge. Then I pull one to make sure it's good.

Personally I shoot The Blue Bullets, and if any of you guys want to give them a try use the code Ennis to get 5% off. If you check the web page thebluebullets.com under load data it talks about crimping and expanding brass. You can also check out The Blue Bullets Shooters on face book. It's a good place to get additional load data and tips from other guys running the same bullet.
