So it was brought up in an interview on Fox by, I think, Darrell Issa that even if McConnell doesn't allow a nominee to be put forward and doesn't not let the Senate go on recess to prevent a recess appointment by the muslim in chief, the Congress, including the Senate adjourns on 3 Jan 17 and the pos in in office until 20 Jan 17. That gives him 17 days without a Senate in place to stop him. I pray that something can be done before hand to prevent it.

Does the Senate HAVE to adjourn though? What if all of the republicans extend for an additional 17 days. Im not sure that the COTUS has to say about that.

EDIT: I just looked it up, in 2007 Reid did prevent recess to prevent Bush from making recess appointments.

The Senate can refuse to adjourn and has before. The Senate needs to do this to prevent Obama from making a recess appointment.

Dana Perino recently predicted that there would be a Supreme Court vacancy this year. She certainly couldn't predict this unforeseen tragedy, so I'm wondering who else, and what inside info she has. If she's correct, they'd be down to seven -- tilting which way?

    Ginsburg.

She's had serious health problems over the past few years.

Who could deny an old woman asking to live out her twilight years in peace?

And if she quits, cough-cough, retires, the Senate wouldn't dare try to hold up two nominations.

Will Obama really be in a hurry to find a replacement? Wouldn't he rather wait and have Killary appoint him when she is elected?

I don't want any of this, but I could see it happening.

Ginsburg and Scalia were the best of buds...dinners out all the time, and even New Year's Eve together if I recall.

This will take the wind out of her, and if she sees that the court will remain at 8 justices for another full year, she may decide to take leave.

That appointment would only be good for 2 years. Then they would have to be confirmed.

. If Republicans don't win this election. The Supreme court will be liberal for rhe next generation. With probably 5 young and liberal justices.

I hope you're right about this part. I'm not feeling so confident.

Well, I think they were. Not sure about now. This is going to put the Republicans in an unpleasant position of either allowing Obama to put another radical socialist on the court, which will guarantee a rubber stamp to anything the democrats send them, or catching flack and criticism for 10 months straight from an unrelenting media. Which could possibly cost them the election and the majority in the Senate.

It doesn't help also that Trump has a sister who is a pro-choice federal judge and who he has already said would make a great Supreme Court Justice. That could cost him pro-life votes in states where he needs them.

That would be a very honorable thing of her to balance the court.

Let the court go to 7 seats until a president is elected.

Take one from each side; Reid would have held it up without batting an eye or losing a wink of sleep. McConnell, not so sure. Not sure at all.

Exactly this. The Democrats will do anything to win and think nothing of it because the ends justify the means. And McConnell - yea, I think we know what will happen there. :mad54:

0 wants to be President of the World.

Being a mere Supreme would be a big step down for him. He's also said he wouldn't want the job, but who believes anything he says?

0 coming on TV soon, will say whether he's going to nominate somebody.

Hillary just out with a statement: Seat should be filled. Not nominating and filling the seat would dishonor our Constitution. All of a sudden she recognizes we have a Constitution?

It's nerve-wracking that so much of our hope rests with McConnell and the Senate Republicans.

I certainly hope they're up to the task.

Obama is making a statement, but could not be bothered to put on a tie. It is Obama's way of saying his personal time was interrupted to do this. It's how passive-aggressive people behave to signal their lack of respect.

Guaranteed, if it had been Justice Ginsburg who had passed, Obama would have found a tie.

0 is on now. Found a sport coat, but couldn't bother with a tie.

Had Scalia to dinner at the WH in 2012 [wow.]

Plans to nominate a successor to fulfill his Constitutional duty, and give Senate an opportunity to consider it.

If McConnell and Grassley can stand the heat they must avoid any Obama nominee hearings. If Obama does get a nomination to a hearing this Republican majority Senate can vote down his nominee if they stick together. Problem is rinos like Lindsay Graham and a few others would flush the country down the drain to be polite when you know the Democrats would obstruct, obstruct and obstruct Republican nominee in similar circumstances. So, the Republican Senate has the ultimate trump card. If they do their duty and keep any Obama nominees off the S Ct it would probably energize leftists to pull every trick they can to win the election in November.

If Obama cannot get his nominee through and a Democrat wins in November then the new president gets to nominate and sooner or later the S Ct would be majority liberal and we lose for at least a generation if not a lifetime.

The stakes here couldn't be higher.
