I read somewhere (looking for the source) that an SBR in MD can be no shorter than 29" measured from the muzzle to the end of the stock with the stock fully EXTENDED.

Was told yesterday that it is supposed to be measured with the stock fully COLLAPSED.

Which one is it? Extended or Collapsed and, is there any documentation explaining that?

    Thanks!

    ATF defines it as:
The overall length of a firearm is the distance between the muzzle of the barrel and the rearmost portion of the weapon measured on a line parallel to the axis of the bore.

The muzzle does not include length from a detachable muzzle device. The rearmost portion is defined as a stock that is unfolded or extended. Lots use A5 buffers on NFA stuff to add a little length, or folding mechanisms to add more.

Thanks for the input. I was pretty sure it was with the stock fully extended or unfolded. There is a gun store local to me that is telling customers the measurement is with the stock collapsed. Thought something may have changed since the last time I checked but, I guess not.

    Thanks again!
