SB 281 and its counterpart on the House side ban the possession of certain firearms not registered as of November.
In addition to the typical black rifles, it appears that our elected officials are contemplating banning a wide variety of what even they would consider "sporting guns."
Most notably, when we all recently watched the Olympics we saw pistols with threaded barrels, magazines forward of the grip and barrel shrouds.
Any ONE of these characteristics would qualify the gun for the proposed ban - even a .22 caliber gun like those in the Olympics.
The same could be said for three-gun competition and a variety of other so-called "sporting uses."
For those who intend to testify against these Bills, I would recommend pointing out that the ban will prevent Marylanders from practicing, trying out or competing in the Olympics as well as numerous sporting events.
Remember that you are trying to communicate with people whose views may be very different from your own on subjects like self defense and the right to revolution.
However, even the "anti's" have usually drawn the line at sporting uses of firearms. They need to be educated about the fact that this bill bans Marylanders from legitimate competition - from the Olympics to three-gun.
Keep up the good fight!
