Thanks to all the people that testified and/or voted unfavorably against SB-1 and HB 824 over the last couple of weeks. Today we heard great testimony in opposition to HB-824 from MSI, 2A Maryland and others. We heard similar great testimony against SB-1 two weeks ago.

Now it's up to everyone to contact the members of the Senate Judicial Proceedings Committee & the House Judiciary Committee to tell them to stop these bills in committee ASAP and don't let them proceed to a floor vote. Please VISIT these Senators & Delegates and tell them to vote unfavorably. And if you can't do that please EMAIL, CALL OR MAIL your thoughts to them. Make sure to tell them to vote unfavorably on these discriminatory and illegal bills.

You can find out how to contact them below. You can also call toll-free if you can't visit or email them. And remember, some of the democrats on these committees are starting to see that these bills are discriminatory and unconstitutional. Help them see the light and vote no.

Please also share this information with all your friends and family to make sure they are also contacting these MGA representatives. Thank you!

Smokey... why did you change your voting registration before this session? Becauuuuuuuuuuse this...

"I am a registered democrat in maryland and an Elementary School Teacher in the Howard County Public School System. I also have a Maryland wear and carry permit to protect myself and my family. I understand the desire to do something about violence in our communities. While the intentions behind HB-824 are honorable, I believe the legislation itself is extremely misguided.

HB-824 would strip me of my constitutionally guaranteed right to keep and bear arms for defense. As a law abiding, highly trained, and vetted citizen that has gone through multiple background checks, HB-824 means I will be disarmed in most spaces outside of my home. Criminals that disregard laws against murder, rape, and robbery will continue to disregard this new legislation.

Democrats fight for the people that are the most vulnerable. We fight for people of color, women, the elderly, the economically disadvantaged, and those with disabilities. A law stripping these groups of their lawful right to defense disproportionately and inequitably harms them. It makes these groups MORE vulnerable to criminal violence by making them easier prey for criminals.

Please vote against HB-824. We need to empower the vulnerable to defend themselves. We should not follow a long racist history of disarming minorities in our country. Thank you.

P.S.- As an elementary school teacher, please work to give our educators a legal pathway to carry at work for the defense of our children. Over half of our country has laws that permit school-carry by licensed and trained adults. Please give me a legal way to defend my children. "

That is very compelling, I might have to switch and register democrat. Not sure why it never occurred to me that I could have more impact from the inside than the outside...

    Good luck. With that

Thanks, Muleskinner. You good luck wishes moved the needle!

Today I called a bunch of the committee member offices, and I actually ended up talking for more than a few minutes with several staff members from the Democrat side. In those conversations I was able to discuss the bills and demonstrate why the bills aren't good law because they are unconstitutional and discriminatory. I answered a lot of questions, and I think they were actually listening. One of the staff members said he was going to the range this weekend to get his W&C qualifications. I was also able to talk at length with one Delegate, and he too asked very good questions and agreed with much of what I was saying.

I believe that legislators and staff are interested in hearing from us about SB-1 and HB-824, and that many of them see the unconstitutionality, discrimination and negative consequences of these laws.

Thanks for bumping the thread, the more folks hear from us the better the chances these and other bills will not make it out of committee.

I tried something like that, short of claiming to be a D, when I lived in NC. They were debating repealing the Jim Crow era pistol purchase permit law.
I reminded my Hispanic democrat rep that the law was written to prevent black Americans from getting guns. He replied with the DNC approved talking points (lies). I replied with what any decent America would. I called him a racist for supporting Jim Crow laws.
Your "democrats fight..." paragraph is pure troll gold. And the rep will completely ignore it.
Reminding a rep that it will cost the state $Millions is legal costs only to lose in court, that might get through to them.
One must also consider that these people get their marching orders from those who plan to flood the courts with these unconstitutional infringements until they get a communist majority on SCOTUS. They do not care about what is actually right.

They're spending our tax money, unlimited coffers in their minds... this doesn't mean squat to any Democrat legislator in Maryland.

I switched to Democrat from independent back in 2013.
I believe that rep’s receiving e mails from a dem voter “ might” are at least be looked at where a email, letter from a republican or independent voter are glossed over.

Maryland by design years ago was to be a Democrat/ Socialist experiment. I was told this back when Glendening was Governor.

It has worked for the most part but Term Limits have kept the Governorship in play.

Hence, the follow on statement that their true goal is to simply flood the courts with cases forcing 2A advocacy groups to spend $millions. Ultimately they believe there will eventually be a majority communist SCOTUS that doesn't care what the Constitution says, just as most elected democrats now.

Big ole bump. Please visit, call and email the Senate Judicial Proceedings Committee members (re: SB-1) and the House Judicial Committee members (re: HB 824). Both of these bills need to be stopped in Committee. Please visit, call or write them if you haven't already. THANK YOU.
