If the mags are altered to only hold 10 rounds it is legal as per MSP. This can be accomplished in many ways. One of the easiest ways being the installation of something like a piece of dowel rod within the magazine body between the follower and floor plate. Another way is to attach something to the follower to to make it longer, or even run something through the mag housing to limit the travel of the follower.

Sell them on Ebay, they will go pretty fast if you don't get greedy.

Oops, late night typing, I forgot Fleabay doesn't allow over 10 rounds.

    Sell them on Gunbroker.

*5906 not 6907 anyway. Dyslexic and didn't know it. So no FleaBay, no GB.
Re the suggestion to use a dowel to limit to 10rnds... Is that MD kosher?

And you had me salavating over the possible existence of a M6907 !

Under the Third Generation numbering matrix that would have been All Blued Steel 9mm traditional DA/SA , 3.5in bbl , 12rd double stack . But as far as I know never existed. Closest off the top of my head was the M559 .

No, unless you are a dealer.

There was a post with an MSP directive that only dealers can alter the mags.

What post is this? You're only half correct...If you call MSP and ask for the handgun licensing division they will tell you that anyone can limit the capacity of a magazine legally. Only an licensed dealer or law enforcement can reverse the process to unlimit the capacity within the confines of Maryland. If Joe Public does this it's considered manufacturing a high capacity magazine which is illegal.

I see what you mean, and I'd say you too are half right.

Anyone can limit the capacity of the magazine, but not anyone can sell/transfer that limited magazine, only an FFL. At least were on MDShooters anyway.

Here is a link to the pdf that was posted.

I too see what you mean; however, this memo is only in reference to new magazines sold at the dealer level. This doesn't take into account used magazines already in circulation within Maryland. The key part Is that this memo doesn't say that ONLY DEALERS CAN convert these mags to be legally compliant.

At the next Maryland gun show, go look at any of the non-FFLs who are selling gunparts and magazines at their tables. Several of them have signs on their table explaining that their USED high capacity magazines have been altered to hold only ten rounds. I didn't believe it myself until I called MSP after talking to one of those dealers.

I don't have a dog in this fight. But it's good to know it's legal to limit the capacity of an already owned magazine in case the governing powers decide to discontinue grandfathered magazines. I'd hate to imagine an outright forfeiture would be our only option...

Ya know.... there are just some firearm items that have to be sacrificed into the war room junk drawer. A couple mags you have no use for are just some of those things.

Well, i'm getting forgetfull in my old age. If any of you ever see a sealed brown envelope with the magic numbers 5906 on it, lying on a table at the pistol range at A$G... If that number matches the model of a firearm you own... please pick up the envelope and protect the contents for me until you see me again. You know its me because I'll have a firearm of that model #. -hypothetically joking
