Nothing to do with me but a buddy of a buddy found what appears to be an older Rossi shotgun. The pics I was shown are garbage so I so won’t post them but here’s what I know.

Appears to be an old 12-20 gauge
    Big old 70s comp
    Single shot

Here’s the kicker……..the barrel appears to be like 8 feet long. It’s not a photo truck either. The barrel is stamped Rossi Armando or whatever it is so I assume the barrel to be factory.

Anyone ever seen this? Did Rossi make gun like this or is the barrel aftermarket? I guess I’m asking could you purchase this in the store in this configuration.

Can’t find anything with a quick google and don’t have the time to really dig in.

I know they made 6ft barrels but 8 ft could have been a special order for the premier Rossi offerings. Sarcasm intended. Haha

    looks sorta like this article.

Maybe it is a 6 foot barrel and the pic angle is funny but I'd never seen a barrel like this. I see what the article says but I wouldn't understand such a long barrel except for tight pattern but I'd assume theres a reason gun manufactures don't go much past 26 in bird guns.

A longer barrel has little effect on pattern density. What determines pattern density is pretty much the choke tubes.

Hunting guns are rarely longer than 28" because it makes them very awkward to handle. Imagine a gun in a duck blind that is 6+ feet long, especially if it is a break open action. How do you load that thing? Imagine carrying a 6+ foot gun along on an upland hunt. Most turkey guns are 24" and a lot of upland guns are 26" or less.

Trap and sporting clays guns usually have 30"+ barrels for the extra weight for the swing and the longer sighting plane.

It's a good chance it was made as an inexpensive "card" gun.
