I know this is the Rifle section of MDS, but this post just didn't seem appropriate in the Handgun section. :)
Even though it is classified as a pistol, I have a hard time calling this thing a 'handgun'.

I just received the latest Rock River catalog the other day and right on page 4 is the new PDS (Piston Drive System) 5.56 pistol.
With an OAL of 17.5 inches and a weight of 5 pounds, this looks like it could be a nice 25 to 50 yard range toy with the addition of a reflex optic and a 2 point sling.

Did anyone here get to fondle this puppy at SHOT?
If so, what are your thoughts?

Kinda hard to get your hands on it, when it's not on the handgun roster.

I toyed with the idea of an upper, and build a pistol but RRA doesn't sell kits. :sad20:

Have it converted into an "AOW". Have a shop with the proper license add a front pistol grip and after the forms comes back, it's yours.

Since there are other 5.56 pistols on the approved list, try to convince RRA or a dealer to submit the gun for approval. That is the other option.

I just noticed something peculiar on the MSP handgun roster.

Seems you can have any RRA frame in any caliber...

If I'm reading the attached table correctly.

Technically: If you can find a dealer, who receives a PDS, strips it down into a "Frame", and upper kit and a lower kit. You purchase the frame, get approved. When you go back to pick up the "Not Disapproved" frame, and see the extra kits, your wallet is the limit.

I don't know if a FFL can do that, but IF RRA was to be willing to play the game, you buy a receiver from them, then ship the receiver back after the 7 day wait and have them build the gun on that receiver. That would be 100% legal.
