    Long time lurker here,

After owning a SA rimfire revolver for a number of years I figured I should bite the bullet and upgrade caliber before the Oct 1 silliness hits.

I've recently handled a number of 9mm and .40 cal pistols and developed a short list of what feels comfortable.

I figure my next step is to head to a range, rent a few pistols and see what does/does not work for me.

I have to run to Glen Burnie next week on business and it looks like On Target isn't too far away. My quandary, for those in the know, is that I have not fired a semi for a number of years, since completion of the NRA Basic Pistol course and I prefer (welcome really) a range that can guide me through a quick features review, look over my shoulder for a bit and generally make sure I don't do anything foolish.

Does On Target sound like the place? Any other recommendations? Anything else I should be thinking of here?

    Thanks in advance.

Do you really want a semi-auto pistol or do you feel compelled to buy one just because of Oct 1st? Plenty of larger-caliber revolvers are more than up to the task. Various versions of S&W Model 686 are a perfect place to look first. Same goes for Ruger GP-100 (and Blackhawk).

It sounds like your best bet is to get together with a member here tp meet at the range. Any number will be glad to help you out , with you providing the ammo expense. With a basic rental , they will so you where the controls are if asked , but the standing at shoulder and providing occasional pointers sounds like a "private shooting lesson" if offered at all.
