Hey Central Maryland folks, what's the closest rifle range to the Columbia area that doesn't require a membership (just show up and pay a range fee)? TIA!

Hap Baker, but why not pay ~$150, go to AGC as much as you want and not wait in line?

Hap Baker is great. Just get there early on the weekends or you will definitely have to wait of using rifles.

That would be my recommendation. The AGC ranges a virtually empty during the week and later in the day (after 4PM) on the weekends in the summer!

+1 for the AGC, otherwise you'll get stuck playing which mediocre range should we try next, and probably spending close to the membership fee on range time.

    Another +1 for AGC.

    Can't beat the accessibility.

For rifles Hap Baker would be second but its a hike and often fills up quickly.

I know AGC has a 200YD range, think Hap does too, IIRC

Because I just want to take a friend who happens to live in Columbia shooting once or twice, not schlep up to Baltimore every time I want to shoot! :D

    Schlep this:

    Columbia to Hap Baker:

    MD-140 W
    37.4 mi, 50 mins
    In current traffic: 52 mins
    I-70 W and MD-97 N
    36.6 mi, 54 mins
    In current traffic: 56 mins
    MD-32 W and MD-97 N/New Washington Rd

    Columbia to AGC

    US-29 N and Marriottsville Rd
    19.7 mi, 33 mins
    No traffic information
    US-29 N
    23.0 mi, 34 mins
    In current traffic: 34 mins
    MD-32 W

Plus your friend can shoot as your guest at AGC.

I live near Columbia and shoot at freestate. It's an indoor range, which is nice during the winter. I can't stand cold weather.

Columbia to Free State can be quite a drive.

If your driving and making a full day of it Del Marva Sporting Clays is always worth the trip. It's far but you will leave satisfied and no membership is required. Personally I like the AGC.

The indirect answer is that Nice, Close , and Cheap don't exist in the same sentance for you. Adjust at least one parameter.

Come to one of our club shoots to try out the AGC

The AGC is a great destination. Get there in the morning and spend the whole day. Its a home away from home. There are a lot of nice folks there. Many of them seem to live there. We even have Homer the cat to keep us company.

100 position - 100 yd multipurpose rifle range, 50 position 50 yd pistol range, 10 position 200 yd rifle range, 4 trap houses, archery range, shotgun patterning range and an indoor air rifle range.

It is pretty close to Columbia.

Click on the web link below. We have two club shoots a month, rifle, pistol, trap. Guests are welcome. Send me a PM if you and your friend would like to come to one of our club shoots.

You don't want to schlep up to Baltimore (neither Hap Baker or AGC are in Baltimore), but you'll drive past it to get to Freestate?

    :wtf:
