I just viewed posts and read it. That is great that it came back to you. I’ve had one stolen in a break in and I Would love to hear they found it.

I had sold it to my cousin in Delaware, I'm Cecil County, in 1990. It was stolen from him by a cousin of his and used in his suicide in Elkton. MSP from the North East barracks contacted me because the serial number was registered to me. I picked it up with the intentions of cleaning it up and selling, but it's just too nice.

The first handgun I ever purchased (a S&W Model 19) was stolen from the trunk of my car at a gun show at the Timonium State Fairgrounds around 1988-1989 time period. The trunk was full of firearms but the Smith was the only one taken (a car with guns in it at a gun show...who woulda thunk it?). I reported the theft and made an insurance claim which paid me for the loss.

In 2000-2001 I received a call from the Baltimore County Police asking if I wanted my gun back. It turns out the revolver was recovered in a drug raid about three weeks after it was stolen. Since the police hadn't entered the gun and serial number into the NCIC system by that point it didn't produce a hit when the number was run when recovered.

I had to fill out the paperwork and wait the seven days before being able to take possession again but I did get my revolver back no worse the wear outside of having been test fired to see if it was used in a crime. Its box wasn't recovered though. It turns out that after all legal procedures and appeals were complete it was protocol to run the number one last time before destroying the gun and that's when it was found to have been reported by me and I was able to have it returned.

I contacted the insurance company about its return and they replied not to worry...they didn't need me to return the payment but they wouldn't pay off in case it was stolen again.

    Now that's quite a history.
