Removing Paint

I'm probably going to end up taking off the hunter green paint job I did to my Marlin 795. It doesn't look bad but I'm thinking of trying to get it back to it's original state. It's got a clear coat over top of the spray paint. I don't want the synthetic stock to look weird afterwards. It's only on the stock, nothing on any metal parts. So what would be a good product to remove the paint? Would acetone do it? Would paint thinner mess up the look of the synthetic?

Yeah I know, that's why I'm kind of nervous about removing it. If I can't figure out a way or if I mess it up I might just get a "Boyd's Gunstock".

You may just have better luck repaint it in the color you want. Removing it would be a real hassle.

I've thought about it but I'm kind of a cheapskate
They're on there for about 40.

That would be easier to remove. But I agree with repainting.

Citristrip has worked well for me in the past. There were a bunch of Bulgarian AK mags imported a while ago that had caked-on spraypaint. Took it right off without damaging the plastic underneath. Still might need some scrubbing with a Scotchbright but no worse than media blasting.

How do you like that mag? I've been considering getting a few 30-rounders like that.

Try denatured alcohol, to remove the Acrylic topcoat.

I'd try it in ONE spot, just in case, though.


"3M Safe Strip" might work, too.
Again, try it in a small area.

citris based striper will do it to but u would pull off the but plate and rub it down in ther just to see if it melts the plastic just incase.
