Remote camping

Can anyone recommend a good area for remote camping where I can shoot as well? I've been rather disillusioned after moving to MD from AZ, where remote camping was the rule rather that the exception. I love camping, but I despise campgrounds. I'm looking for anywhere within a 3 hour drive.

You can try Western MD. Shooting out there may be a small issue. Most state parks want you to shoot @ the range but it rarly happens with all the land out there. Ive hiked sections of the App. trail but again you cant shoot.

My brother has some land there that we visited for the first time since taking ownership. Went to the nearest house to talk to the people there....just to be polite

Is there any public land in Monroe County that can be used for camping, or is it all private land? I don't know why, but the first thought that came to mind when you said camping in WV was 'Deliverance'. Although, I think that movie was supposed to be in GA. Either way, I'll be armed to the teeth for sure!
