I recently acquired a desert eagle in 50 AE. Naturally I went to Amazon and laid in a supply of the proper cleaning brushes and jags in .50 cal.

Turned out the bronze brushes I purchased were made for .50 cal black powder. it won't screw onto any of my cleaning handles ( the thread on the .50 cal brush is too big)

I went to Lowes a moment ago and sized the thread on the brush. It is M5 x 0.8 Is that the standard thread spec for a black powder cleaning rod? I would like to order the correct rod but until recently i didn't even know they were not all the same.

If you have a shotgun cleaning rod, They make an adapter for shotgun to black powder tips. That's the best I got...

Your stated thread size is throwing me on a 50 caliber brush. But generally, while there are "typical" thread sizes with different diameter cleaning rods, there are also variations. I've seen it oftentimes with the thread patterns on the cheaper aluminum and brass cleaning kits differing. But also with military rods, and the better rods by brand name as well that have brand specific jags and mops and brushes. And when you encounter these differences, then yeah. It's a pain in the rumpus to be sure.

I have a smaller version of this kit. I hate to fool with adapters. But sometimes in a pinch, they can come in handy.

Check the 5th picture for the best view of from/to views of the different listed sizes of male to female and the other included adapter configurations.
