I have two percussion guns (one rifle and one pistol) and just wondering how many use the ramrod it came with or do you use a replacement Replacement Ramrod? I really don't to keep using the ramrod it came with. If you use a replacement; any recommendations?

I NEVER use wooden rods for rifles. Too much flex. Too much break. Too much sharp splinters.

I will use a wooden rod for pistol.

Bass Pro has nice black rods for rifle use.

You can pick up a replacement fiberglass ramrod for under $20.

Make sure to mark both empty lengths on it, if you are going to use it on the range for both.

I use a brass range rod for target shooting. I use a cut to length fiberglass rod when I am hunting with my Lyman percussion rifles, and take the wooden one out. I will use the aluminum rod that came with my Knight inline when I am hunting with that.

I have seen some pictures of a rod breaking when trying to ram home a ball. It makes me squeamish to see a wood rod poking right thru someones hand. :shocking:

I think my fiberglass is a CVA rod, but I am sure other make them.

I have several "range rods" one set up for 50 and one for 54 cal if I bring both to range.
I have a unbreakable rod for my .54 cal for hunting and pull the wood one out. I do use the range rod when loading it.
I have never used any of the wood rods per warnings people have posted.

I have a nice long black rod.

I've had it so long, I don't remember where it came from. Made of aluminum tubing, works great.

Get your mind out of the gutter!
