I just picked up a 1966 Winchester Model 94 30-30 from a women whose husband recently passed away. I was thinking about buying it from her and wanted to know if there is anything I should look at before firing it. It looks to be in pretty good shape, the finish has some pitting, but not bad at all. The lever action seems to be working fine. She also has a older Ruger 10/22 I might pick up.

They are pretty robust, I wouldnt worry to much if the bore is clear (Yes I know its funny but always check I have seen more than one cleaning rod stuck in a gun), the lever works, and the action locks.

Give it a good cleaning and lubejob beforehand.
