Here is Wilson's full length GR for Commander:

Now, here is Wilson's normal GR for Commander:

Next is Wilson's GR for Government (regular):

And now Wilson's GR one piece full length:

Question is why on their Commander's regular GR they put that notch, while it is not on full length one for Commander or any of Government ones?

When GR is used without hole or notch, does this cause extra stress on barrel link? Does it improve or hurt barrel/slide lockup?

The rails and guide rod flange are machined further back on the Commander pistols putting the guide rod closer to the slide stop pin. The notch in the end of the guide rod is meant to prevent interference between it and the bottom of the barrel link.

Why not on the Commander flgr I don't know. But I did sell a Gov't size flgr with that same relief in it. First time I observed it.

Some guide rods are relieved at the top rear of the centering lug to avoid possibility of interference with the lower lugs during linkdown. Many clearly are not. These lug and link relics may be producers pecieved needed design features.

Wilson used to make a "Group Gripper" that had a flat spring in that area with a notched bbl link that fitted onto it and was relieved the same way. Could be they are using the same design for the regular guide rod since it wouldn't affect operation.
