  • I have a bunch of brass shot in my rifle that I don't intend to reload. If setting up a die I'll measure the headspace then FL resize according to the manufacturer's instructions. Then I'll measure the headspace again. Then I'll subtract the bumpback I want from the bumpback I just measured. Let's say it works out to 0.005 - 0.002. In that case I'll adjust the die with a 0.003 piece of feeler gauge stock between the shell plate and die. Voila, the die is now set for 0.002 bumpback.

I've played around with FL, Neck, and Body + Neck, resizing. I have found a slight edge in body sizing first, then neck sizing using a bushing die. It's a hobby, so it's fun to experiment.
