Public land rifle hunting in Western MD?

I live in eastern MD (PG county) but planning a trip to western MD in early December...are there public hunting lands in western MD that I can hunt with a rifle?

Separately, any recommendations for western MD public hunting land in general for firearms season? Happy to hunt with shotgun if that's the only option.

Pretty much everything past/including Washington county.Some areas in Frederick and Carroll also,they're listed in the the guide.

Avoid Saturdays and the 1st Monday of deer season. Too many crazies out there.

Frederick watershed is pretty good. And usually light on other hunters past bout Tuesday after opening day.

Check with DNR in Allegany County

There are some large sections of public hunting land on the state forest controlled tracts. Generally the more you hike away into rough, steep terrain from parking lots and atv trails, the more you have the place to yourself. Assuming you re going after deer, don't forget where region A rules apply.

Looking at Garrett County

Starting to narrow down the search and looking at Deep Creek in Garrett County...taking the wife there for anniversary and she's good with me hunting a bit during the trip. Anybody hunt Deep Creek?
