Public hunting land for Squirrels

Got a new 22 LR and have the itch to slay some tree rats. Any decent public places to go? The closer to Annapolis the better.

I hate to be on the actual subject of the thread, but the King's Landing Area of Huntingtown WMA is almost 1,000 acres with plenty of trees.

It's where I go.

Is 22LR ok for Squirrel and Rabbit for ground shots in a Shotgun County?

I was told it was ok, but then a DNR girl said, shotgun only. I thought Rifle vs. shotgun counties was only for centerfire?

Rifle and shotgun counties are for deer only.
From DNR regulations;

Rifles may be used to hunt all game mammals (except beavers, weasels, mink, muskrats, and river otters), turkeys during the fall season only, quail, pheasants, ruffed grouse, crows, nutria, and woodchucks.

Shotguns may be used to hunt all game birds, game mammals (except beavers, weasels, mink, muskrats, and river otters), nutria, and woodchucks. The magazine and chamber must be capable of holding no more than 3 shells total except for resident Canada geese during the September season, light geese when prescribed in the annual hunting regulations, or deer hunting (where the number of shells is restricted to 8).
