"Hi. I understand you're calling to ask me to participate in a phone survey.

"I'm doing polling of persons and organizations conducting phone polls.
Are you being paid minimum wage? 125% of MW? 150% of minimum wage? 200% of minimum wage?
    By whom are you employed?
What is the source of their income?
For whom is your survey being conducted?
What is their stated purpose for conducting, and intended use of the information derived?
What is the source of their funding.

"I'm a fervent beliver in participant parity when it comes to exchange of information. If you consider any of your information to be private, then you may consider mine to be private also.

"Are you prepared to answer my questions? If not, have a nice day."

    1) the conversation would be long over.
    2) I've never been called for any of these so-called revealing surveys.

I no longer answer the phone. Too damned many tele-harassers. Especially in election season.

    I have caller ID...

I pay for my phone & use it for MY convenience...

IF I don't know the caller or recognise the phone number, I don't answer...

IF the phone call is legit & they leave a message, I'll call them back at MY convenience...

I do NOT participate in any Surveys, ever...

And I hope that the "Silent Majority" of Americans feels similarly...

Telephone surveys inherently self-select for naive people.

Any "statistics" gleaned this way are complete pseudo-scientific ********.

Well..it's a paradox..if you admit to owning there could be consequences personally if the info was ever used for nefarious purposes. .if you don't and it appears to gun grabbers the number of people who own guns is low it's just more "ammo" for them use against us saying things like "gun owners are a small minority and don't represent the will of the people "..

I'm willing to bet that no matter how small the actual number is, it is much larger than any one of the vocal minorities that Democrats claim to speak for.

Think cops are the only people that can extract an answer without any trepidation? Ever seen a flow chart of a well crafted survey? You are going to be started out with very innocuous questions leading to that. How about reverse the premise, and wonder how many that don't own a gun will say they do?

Yes, this is valid and a good study should be the same way

The only way I can imagine to acquire data on firearms ownership would be from 4473s, cumulated over the past 20 years. Then add about 25%. Of course, nobody keeps that data, do they? :innocent0

For entertainment purposes I did answer the phone a number if times prior to the 2018 election. I wanted to skew the poll data on purpose. However after 3 attempts I was excluded. On 2 occasions they asked me my birth year and upon answering they said they already had enough data from my demographic. On the other occasions they asked if I was a registered Democrat, Republican or other. When I answered Democrat they said poll was collecting data from likely republican voters.

Now I’ve got my story straight for next election.

    That should help the cause.

I would keep them on the phone as long as possible, without answering the question. Keeps them from harassing others!

You do that, too? Excellent! Speakerphone makes it really easy.

I bet that cuts down on needlessly answering the phone by about 90%.

You forgot undocumented...that you're here in the U.S. illegal...er...are an undocumented asylum-seeker. Wait, no, then that means you got your guns through a loophole, so we MUST need more gun laws. Carry on.

I wouldn't even admit to owning a phone.

I don't even know how to use a computer.
