What paperwork would someone who was in the military need to buy a shotgun in Maryland? Can someone show up with cash, ID, military orders and walk out with a gun?

Shotguns are over the counter, no prescription needed. (ID and cash)

Not sure of the rules if you are stationed here from out of state.

Military service also permits you to NOT have to sit through the 45 minute web safety course 'offered' by the MD Police Training Commission. Thank you for your service.

That Safety Course is only needed for Maryland Regulated Firearms (handguns and some scary-looking long guns).

Shotguns are no big deal at all.

Why are we so quick to assume that we're under even more severe restrictions than we actually are?

Because, of course, shotguns can't kill people nearly as well as handguns and AR-15's can. :sad20:

I was just researching this myself. Although I'm a handgun and AR owner, I've never had a shotgun.

In fact I'm very surprised the forum shotgun section doesn't have a single sticky thread...!!

So if it's a dealer, it's just over the counter and one form?

If it's buying from John Doe MD resident, there's no paperwork...?
I just hand over my cash to some stranger and walk off with a shotgun...seriously..??

What about online purchase, since I never purchased any firearm online...
Does that ship to my door, or has to go via an FFL?

With all the restrictions we ARE under, better safe than sorry. Wouldn't want to get hit with a felony firearms charge and lose all your toys because you didn't play it 200% safe...

its considered long guns.. so its cash and carry

but the online.. it must be mailed to an ffl.. fed law.. but you can go across the line and buy one from va, pa or wv.. but still need background check.

ftf sale (in-state is fine). as long the buyer is legal to own firearms.

    Kind of scary LOL.

So the background check is 1 form, no wait, pay cash & walk out..!!

Not that I'd fail, but how does that work LOL, if ya fail they come knocking on your door to get the shotgun back, HaHa.

Well I have my Sig P226, and my AR SPR rifle, so I figure it's time to add a Remington 870 ;)

I bought my 500 in Va the day of my 19th b-day, had to wait 30 or so minutes, and was escorted out of Wal-Mart with a brand new 12 ga in my possesion.
