This may or may not be a hypothetical, if you renewed your permit and scheduled to pick it up next Friday and have the information on your phone about pick up and approval could you legally carry on that permit even if you only had the paperwork and not the permit itself.

    Not legally.

Wait till after you pick up the permit. Some counties require you to sign the permit before printing.

IIRC, PA instructed me to email a copy of my new MD HGP when I renew or my PA goes away on the MD expiration date.

I got my PA permit about a month ago so this interested me. My initial reaction was I don’t see how it would be legal to carry on and expired permit.

Did some quick searching and it appears there is a grace period of sorts. But that grace period references expired within 6 months of an arrest.

So it sounds like you can use the 6 month “Grace period” assuming you are currently eligible for renewal as a defense….

“12) A person who has a lawfully issued license to carry a firearm pursuant to section 6109 (relating to licenses) and that said license expired within six months prior to the date of arrest and that the individual is otherwise eligible for renewal of the license”

    So, you do you .

You can car carry on any state issued permit. You have to leave the pistol in the car when you pick up your renewed PA permit anyway.

While true , that's not what Welder is asking .

You're not supposed to carry on an expired LTC . But you have a six month window after expiration to get a Renewal instead of applying from scratch .

The other answer is that after approval , you have 30 days to pick it up , or it will.be cancled on day 31

I set up an appointment this morning to pick up my permit, i first filled out forms on 06-06-2023 and just picked it up today . The lady told me it was a whisker from being denied or thrown away for me to start the process back up.

The lady and people could not have been more friendly in York Pa. she ran my background check and printed it off for me and my employee as we both were late picking them up.

They were great and get an A+ for customer service.

I'll second the props for the York County sheriff's office. They were first rate. There are some governmental units that do great work, and these folks are an example.

I agree, i can't think of anywhere in Maryland they did not act like you were bothering them. From the moment i entered the building the officers were friendly and professional that did the security screening.

I'll give props to the MVA office in MoCo at Metropolitan Grove. I've been transacting license and title business at that location for over 30 years and every one has gone smoothly. Of course I definitely over-prepare so my stuff is always in order. IDK what it's like if you need help unfooking something.

The ladies at Jefferson County Sheriff’s office in WV are like that too.

They’ were super friendly and when they went to take my picture, I was told I could keep my hat on. I asked if they were sure and she showed me sample pics they’re given as to what’s allowed. I was a bit shocked they allowed the photo to be taken with a hat.

Are they still doing it at the auxiliary office or did you go to the actual County Sheriffs office?

At the main York County multipurpose center with the Sheriffs office off to the right, i have never gone anywhere else. I do believe there is an option to pick from the auxiliary as well once you make your appointment.
