Has anyone had a p64 redone. Maybe nickel finish or some of the new coating? New springs and grips?

i have 3 of them and have a iwd holster so i can carry it.

I have a few P64s, but I can’t get passed the recoil. My hands are just the right size so the grip is only between my thumb and index finger. I can only get about 50 rounds down range until my hand is pretty sore.

Nice slim guns for carry though.

I like mine and with good lubrication, I find the stiff double action trigger pull to actually be comforting if one was going to carry it chambered and ready. Last thing I need during a stressful, adrenaline-addled situation is a light competition trigger for the 1st shot. If I was actually bothered by it at all, I'd just click back the hammer with my thumb, time permitting.

IMO, the absolutely horrendous double action pull makes the P64 a poor choice for carry.

I agree. The P64 is better than nothing, but less than optimal for several reasons.

I did replace the trigger spring on mine, but the double action pull is still too heavy, while the single action pull is too light.

I did not replace the recoil spring with the heavier one in the Wolff kit. The slide is hard to rack as it is, mainly because the tiny, shallow grasping grooves do little too compensate for the slipperiness of the slide.

The sights are an obsolete joke.

Don't plan on any tacticool rapid reloads of those tiny six round magazines. That heel release means two handed reloads, unless you can activate it with your belt or something.

But the main disadvantage is that the P64 is not drop safe, or so I have heard. I will err on the side of believing that until someone proves that it is drop safe.

I think we are spoiled by modern pistols. We take their refined features and their safety for granted. The P64 is not a modern pistol. It is an unrefined obsolete knock-off of an obsolescent design from the 1930s.

I have no intention of carrying mine, ever.

If a P64 is all you have, you might carry it as a stop gap until you can scrape together a couple hundred bucks for a used PF9 or something, but I suggest you consider it a temporary stop gap at best. There are much, much, much, much, much better CCW pistols out there at reasonable prices.

I believe the P64 is drop safe if the safety is on. If the decocker is all the way down, I believe a bar blocks the firing pin, making it drop safe.

I’m not opposed to carrying a P64. Sure there are better options, but all the ones I’ve owned or shot were reliable and accurate.

Having to engage a manual safety on a double-action pistol is ridiculous and defeats the purpose.
Again, the P64 is better than nothing, buts it's a poor choice for carry, except as a temporary stop gap.

Not disagreeing with you, but it is drop safe, if not very inconvenient to be so

I agree that there are better choices for carry pistols, but my P-64 shooter has a pretty decent trigger in both double and single action. Definitely hard on double action, but manageable. It shoots reliably, is very accurate, and easily concealable.
It may be difficult to do a mag change, but that is rarely performed during a defensive situation.
Did a spring swap on it and installed a set of PolishIron grips. Still snappy, but the grips make it much more comfortable to shoot.

50 rounds! Wow, I can hardly get two mags before I give up. They are a nice size for carry though. The only problem with that is the decocker. It is very stiff and would present a problem in a defensive situation. I'd be afraid to carry it without the decocker engaged due to the drop safe situation and it would be useless if carried in a condition one configuration. They are nice sturdy well built pistols though. They used to be cheap C&R guns but the supply dried up a few years ago.

    Where they send me.
I did the trigger over on mine and find it to be a fine little pistol. Quality made, all metal, in a reasonable round. Yes, some things I would change if I were able to re-design it but I like it well enough as is.

Never did grab one when they were readily available, and I've kicked myself for that. Not because of any love for the gun itself, but because they were soooo cheap.

My combloc "carry" (only if desperate) is the FEG PA-63. Slightly better overall for carrying with an easier-to-rack slide, single-hand reload capability, and a slightly better stock DA trigger pull (16lbs vs 20lbs). The Wolff spring kits can get this as low as 9lbs when using modern commercial ammo vs hard primers on military surplus ammo. 11lbs is the "compromise" spring that will still fire hard military primers but save your fingers some stress.

All that said, I will be carrying my Sig p365x once it gets out of jail this Thursday when needed instead of the PA-63

I had a PA-63 some years ago and it seems I remember it bit me a couple of times if I let my hand get too high a hold. It was also snappier than a Makarov, probably due to the lighter weight.
