How do I go about taking the NRA Instructor course? Or get NRA RSO certified? If I remember correctly the Instructor course is required in order to get the RSO certification.

Is there a prerequisite to becoming an NRA RSO? Do you have to be an NRA certified instructor of some kind (i.e. pistol, Rifle, shotgun) first?

    Thanks, will check it out.

Nope. But if you get rifle or shotgun first, the RSO is a mail-in packet for less than twenty dollars.

Cool. Will look at taking a couple of courses. Never know when someone might need an RSO to help out at an event or the club I belong to might need an RSO. Shooting courses might be fun too, but I am getting to old to change my shooting ways. I hit what I am at now...usually. :D

IIRC RSO is now available online.

Really? Have a link to the site?

How does one become a certified NRA Range Safety Officer?

    1. Individuals who currently possess a valid NRA Firearms Instructor certification or NRA Coach appointment in one of the NRA's firearms training programs have the option of taking the Range Safety Officer course online. If you qualify, visit www.nraonlinetraining.org and get signed up!
    2. Those individuals who do not hold a trainer rating must attend a Range Safety Officer course. Range Safety Officer courses are conducted by Chief Range Safety Officers. ("Chief Range Safety Officers" are those individuals certified to train NRA Range Safety Officers.) The Range Safety Officer course is a nine-hour course that consists of classroom time and practical exercises conducted on a range. Range Safety Officer candidates will receive the Range Safety Officer Student Packet.

Don't take RSO online....it should really be taken in a live course to get the full benefit of the training.

A number of us here offer the class. I have one coming up in October.

    I agree 100%

However, online courses may still benefit certain groups as a adjunct or alternative to the preferred in-person training.

Take the learning disabled, overseas military or those just seeking a refresher for example.

This. It is a good course with good info. Not to mention some of the stories are gold from the experienced instructors.

To tell the truth I rather take the class in person. Make sure I am doing things right.

Where do you hold your classes?

I have taken instructor level classes at the NRA headquarters in Fairfax.

I highly recommend them, especially Dave
K's Basic Pistol NRA instructor class.

Plus here is a great RSO class/program that requires a minimum of 9 hours... Much better than 'on line.'

Cool, I am an AGC member through TCA.

    Dave

    LOL

I am waiting for it to be posted on the MDS calendar but there is a post for it in B&S Personal Safety And Firearms Education and at the NRA website.

The cost for MDS members will be $75.00 as I recall.

The class is limited to ten (10) students and we usually have a good time and guest RSOs stopping by for real life stories.
