That is so freakin awesome! I wish I could have gone to it. I remember going to one back in the 80s as a kid. I was captivated by the M1 vs M60 tank demonstration back then.

I was on base thurs and I think I heard them "practicing" a few rounds. They were off in the distance but def heavy artillery.

Living at the end of Ebenezer and Eastern ave (Chase, Md) I can hear/feel when there are practing about twice/year.

If you live downrange over on the Eastern Shore, you can hear/feel them almost every day. One day last week there was one shot that shook everything so much that some ES communities the bang was all anyone talked about that evening. When the GAU-8 cannon was in development, we heard them almost every day for years BRRRRRRRRRRP!

Right on both accounts. The way the grill was explained to me is that when the RPG goes through the slots the metal is stripped away and the fuse connecting the explosives is stripped away. Basically makes the round inert and the shaped charge never goes offf.

I must've attended the 50th anniversary celebration! Been a long time since visited the base, as a young engineer working for the Navy. Their museum (outside and inside) was amazing.
