    Turnaround time

A quick update for folks interested in getting their VA non-resident.

I sent my app on Thursday, 6/10/10

Got the confirmation of payment (dated Monday 6/14/10) on 6/17/10

Received permit on 7/03/10 - showing an issue date of 6/23/10

    Awesome turnaround time IMHO

Glad to have it - but as others have commented - it looks like a teenager made it in their basement.
I hope if I'm ever checked in a reciprocity state that they believe it is a real permit.

I don't think he did, he went to a private fingerprinting business. However, I did just what you said without a problem about 2 months ago. I've had nothing but good experiences w/ Hoco police in 15 yrs of living in Columbia. Except for that one time I went streaking...

Lol, yeah sometimes they dont like things like that. I get along with the HoCo Police ALOT better now...Im on their side...kinda. I live in Columbia too.

Since I just received my permit - I thought I'd share some info.
I had some questions while getting everything together, so maybe what I did can help someone else out...

I got the fingerprints done at the MSP barracks by BWI - I was in and out in about 15 min. Cost was $5, done by a pleasant older fellow, retired Trooper I think...

I used my MSP online training card (not one from a shop with a real signature) for proof of training.

    I got 2 passport photos from Walgreens. ~$8 & ~10 min.

I used the local UPS Store for notary $4

I took the completed packet (Notarized application, fingerprint card, 2 photos, copies of my DL (front and back of both my DL and my change of address card) and MSP online training card) to the Post Office.
I purchased a $100 Postal Money Order (fee=$1.10) and first class postage for the packet ($1.05)

Filled out the money order, dropped it in the envelope (that the VSP had provided) sealed it and sent it off.
I received the permit on July 3rd.

    Total Cost = $119.15
Total Time = 23 days (from dropping packet in the mail to permit in hand)

... copies of my DL ...

    Uh oh .... :o

I just sent my application for a Florida non-resident CCW permit and didn't send them a copy of my drivers license. :banghead:

Then again ... it was never asked for.
I sent a copy of my training certificate, finger print card, passport photo, notorized application, and money order.
I hope that's good enough. :fingerscrossed:

    Really!? Just as "bad"?
You'd think that VSP could use the same system that they use to make the drivers licenses...
Oh well - as long as it works, I'm content.

    Yep, I'm serious!
