THis was posted in the Central section of regions and no one has put it here. Can some IPs comment on this?

We recently received a letter from the "Maryland Licensed Firearms Dealers Association, Inc." that is asking for donations to help fund the legal battle that is about begin. (see below)

In an effort to help the effort, and help preserve our rights, we are currently selling AR-15 lowers manufactured by Aero Precision. $5 from the sale of each lower will be donated to MSI, who with others, seem to be taking the lead in this endeavor.

The lowers are forged mil-spec from 7075-T6 aluminum, with mil-A-8625F Type 3 Class 2 black hardcoat anodized finish. We're are selling these items for $115 for one lower, or $100 each if you buy 2 or more.

    Thanks for your support!

Letter from "Maryland Licensed Firearms Dealers Association, Inc."

On October 1, 2013, the following situation will occur:

Handguns and ammo will still be scarce. Poplular models of handguns will still NOT be readily available. Semi-automatic rifles will likewise be hard to get. You will be selling guns with 10 round magazines in them or with no magazines at all. Add to this that dealers will no longer be able to sell rifles banned as "assault weapons". The most popular semi-automatic rifles in the country, the AR-15, will be permanently banned from sale. Dealers will no longer be able to mail in 77r forms. Only faxes will be accepted until MSP goes online with the forms. Maryland State Police has confirmed that they will not begin to issue the newly required licenses to purchase a handgun until that date. In point of fact, they will not even have the forms ready before 10/1/13, thereby making it impossible for citizens to get fingerprinted and have the form filled out prior to 10/1/13. Given that MSP has been taking 90-100 days to perform a standard background check, it is extremely possible that they will also fail to issue these licenses within the statutory 30 days as written in the law. Training requirements for those who need it have not, (as of this date), been established. We Expect 50,000-70,000+ Marylanders to apply for the required license the first year, completely swamping MSPs' processing abilities.

Therefore, as of October 1, 2013, there will be no handguns sales taking place in the State of Maryland. How long this situation will last is uncertain. The minimum amount of time where no dealer can sell a handgun appears to be 30 days. Given the inability of MSP to perform their current tasks, (even with extra staff), it is more likely that this situation will last several months.

This will be the death knell for dealers who will not be able to last 30 days or more without handgun sales taking place. The only hope to this untenable situation is for the MLFDA to be granted a stay of the law from a federal judge in conjunction with the filing of our lawsuit.

It's your livelihood at stake Unless our lawsuit prevails, the firearms industry in Maryland could be permanently crippled or wiped out. Every dealer needs to help fight this battle. The MLFDA can't do it alone. All dealers MUST donate to fight this law. This will be an expensive legal battle. Please, please donate as much as you can to the fight. Without sufficient funds, we cannot succeed. NRA will only cover part of the legal costs for the suit. Firearms dealers, Maryland gun owners, hunters, gun club members and anyone else who believes in the Second Amendment must make up the difference. Both Appalachian Promotions and Silverado Gun Shows are donating monies from their show admissions to the case. The MLFDA would like to thank both of them for championing our gun rights in Maryland.

Associated Gun Clubs of Baltimore, and Maryland Shall Issue are also taking the lead in this fight. Their resources are being used to communicate the severity of this situation to gun clubs and firearms owners throughout Maryland. They are also donating funds to aid this fight.

Yep, we need the funding (I'm on the MLFDA BOD) to fight this SB281. Cash or check (payable to MLFDA) donations will continue to be accepted at Shooters Discount.

A good thing to do would be for everyone to sign up and take the training at least once, but preferably multiple times, whether you need it or not.

It is always good to brush up on which end is the dangerous end, and which direction the bullets go in.

The house and senate agree that we can't handle those kinds of things. After all, all those details can be difficult.

Isn't it interesting that the GA mandated a 30 day limit on the HQL issuance in the new law which includes a background check, when at the time of its passage background checks were taking a minimum of 60 days to complete? And now with the timeframe being over 100 days, somehow they are gonna clear the backlog and simultaneously push out the HQL's?

Reminds me of flow charts that include a block showing "and then a miracle happens"...

Just a guess, but wasn't the real intent of this new law to reduce the probability that someone would go through the hassle to purchase a handgun, while banning many popular semi-auto rifles? To close the window a little more on total sales in the state with the ultimate goal of no sales? Seems to be working wonderfully.

I have no sympathy for any dealer not releasing on-time. With reduced firearm options for purchase in the state, and many discouraged from the HQL process, FFL's that refuse to release (even with customers they have known for more than a decade with many regulated transactions), the state may only be able to sustain 30-50% of the current FFL dealers. The rest will be gone, which also seems it was an overt goal of this new law.

If SB281 really will shut down any lawful sales, that should be reason enough for a motion for temporary injunctive relief to accompany the filing of the lawsuit to stop this unlawful legislation.

Will there be a well-publicized rally on the courthouse steps on 10/1 when the lawsuit is filed, accompanied by speeches about the importance of the Second Amendment in history and in defending our other freedoms from tyranny?

Basically the answer from 'dem (pun intended) will be along the line of, "Well, you can still go buy a shotgun". Don't forget, Joe Biden said sumptin' like that too.:sad20:

I would like to hear from some of the dealers on the their % of handgun sales as compared to total.

    I guess about 50%.

If the Maryland politicians are successful in shutting down firearm sales in the state, they may find that their aren't enough taxpayers left to pay them. The exits out of Maryland will most likely be saturated with people who can move, leaving the state.

Virginia, West Virginia, Delaware, and Pennsylvania government officials will be sending notes of thanks to the Maryland legislators.

The Heller decision alone should be enough to kill at least the AWB just based on precedent. But then again, judges can be bought. :sad20:

What you say is common sense. But, common sense ceases to exist at the MD line. So, the General Asylum pretty doesn't have give a damn who leaves or how many leave. The plan will simply to raise taxes on those who remain to make what they THINK would be the difference, and then some. :sad20:

Let's hope. It will depend on how you define "common use". Liberals tend to interpret things like this based on what they feel should be in common use.....

We should make a joint effort to purposely bog the system down and then report it to MSI and the NRA so they can get accurate statistics. This includes taking the training and buying handguns. Maybe a lawyer can speak up but I would think the more people affected, the more harm done. Also the more people that sign up the longer the waiting period will be therefore making more of an impact.

At least this is what I think. Might be the wrong approach.
