Just came back from my second range session with my new .22. Between Thursday and today, I have put 2000 rounds through it with NO malfunctions.
I fired the first 500 with no mods to see how it was. While the trigger was not bad, it had more creep than I like. I could also feel it camming the hammer back during the pull. Additionally, I decided I didn't want the mag safety.
The mag safety is easy to take out and there are a couple of videos showing how. If you are handy, you can work on the hammer sear without tearing down the gun. I cut back the notch length and changed the angle and it gave me a nice trigger. The spring is a little heavy for a .22 but it is a mouse trap type so there isn't much you can do with it until someone makes a replacement.
If you search the internet, you will find some folks who said they had a rough barrel. Mine was perfect with the exception of light marks from the rifling button being pulled through. There is no roughness when pushing a cotton ball through the barrel.
The magazines are some of the best I have found. Too bad my Ruger Mk4 22/45 mags couldn't be this good out of the box. The rounds stack kind of funny as the mag is wider than most .22 mags yet I never had any failure.
One other mod I am contemplating is contouring the trigger. The bottom of the trigger feels like it is curling up during the end of the press and it is annoying. I figure I can use a heat gun and bend it a little.
The sights are made of plastic and are usable but that is about it. I put an order in to Optics planet for a Williams sight set which will correct this problem. I was able to get 1 inch groups from the bench using MiniMag .40 grain Target ammo. Like most .22's this one is very picky. With Federal Auto Target, it shot about a 2.5 inch group. With Federal Classic 36 grain plated, it shot a 4 inch group. I plan to shoot it in my club's monthly .22 steel match to see how it does.
I carry a M&P .40c and sometimes a M&P shield .380EZ. I would say the size of the .22 compact is close to the .380 EZ. The trigger is similar to the EZ also as it too is a hammer fired pistol.
I would highly recommend this pistol if anyone has interest in it.
