So I purchased a wall hanger at a local auction and I'm curious about age, and whatever other information I can get about it. Thanks in advance.

American flintlock long rifle. Mountain-style by the drop of the stock. I'd date it to about 1825-35. Looks like the rear sight is missing.

Check to see if it's loaded...they often were.

Concur on the era. Patchboxes with that pierced, multipiece look weren't really seen til then. Does it have a maker's name scribed on top of the barrel?

The lockplate looks a little odd - most had some kind of bevel or some kind of minimal ornamentation. They also rarely had more than two locl screws. That one looks like a flat piece of sheet stock, so it could be home-made.
