Ouch, dont start filing stuff on a brand new gun ! If the mags dont pop out, there is something wrong with the gun, not the mags. I just double-checked on mine and both the 7 (that lives in the gun) and 9 (that lives in the mag pouch) fall free if I push the mag release.

I didn't touch the gun, only the mag slots on one 9-round mag. I'd love to know what makes the higher round-count mags so hard to drop...but I don't think it's the gun.

Make sure the sleeve is pushed all the way down. If the distance between the butt of the gun and the mag release is off on your gun, it could make the sleeved mags difficult to seat and remove.

I going with you meaning what mags did they ship with the gun; one 7-round and one 9-round mag. Just checked and Springfield's site STILL says it comes with one 7-round and one 8-round.

The bonus mags ships with one of each, 7-rd; 8-rd; 9-rd.

It's worth knowing that the the 7-rd is normal to extract with the push of the mag release. The 8-rd is harder and the 9-rd is very hard. I admit I have some Arthur-itis in my strong hand thumb, but I can fairly easily get the 7-rd out, but not easy for the 8 and I can not get 9 rounders out at all.

I tried filing the mags at the catch slot with no change. I figure it has something to do with the greater spring tension and stopped filing away metal. It comes with ambidextrous mag release, so I just use my index finger and problem solved.

It shoots very well. I was putting holes in the center of the target at 7yds.

I have the same model and you're absolutely right. The 9 rounders are a labor to get out.
