    Question for the Hivemind:

How did the Russian optics attach to a 91/30 or other suitable Mosin? Does it involve drilling holes and other rude, intrusive methods?
    Are replica Russian optics available?

The PU system uses a base that is mounted to the side of the receiver, receiver is drilled and tapped and pins added as well. There are original and replica scopes available if you know where to look

Cool, thank you. I was toying with the idea of picking up a longer Mosin and doing this for fun.
I don't think I'm talented enough to make the modifications.

Best route in my opinion would be to get a repro PU rifle thats already out there, seems they are cheaper than getting a rifle and all the correct parts and then having someone do the work. Or get some kind of no drill/tap scope mount if you just want a scope on it

or better yet save up and buy a real PU

I had a repro sniper and couldn't shoot a better group than 3.5 to 4 inches at 100 yards. I noticed these "sniper rifles" as imported in 2006.

ex-snipers are easier to make snipers with. E-bay is filled with "kits" to make snipers.

Get the real deal it will retain its value.
    Inspect the bore

Got mine years ago when they were “in stock” and only $550
Mint bore and after doing the stock mods 1” groups (1 minute between shot) with reloads at 100yards

Every one I have seen scope a mosin on their own gets disappointed.

If you want to scope a milsurp and get accuracy, the K31 you can get a scope mount that does not require drilling and they are all pretty much accurate. I did that to mine but took it off. It shot 2” at 100 yards

The problem with many "real deals" from the 90's, are they were made for the American market. Century Arms then sold them to Sarco, BPP and others.

Research, research and do more research before you buy.

Yes very true. Once you know what to look for they are pretty easy to spot. Or ask here before you buy.

One of those century repros just sold on empire arms for $1650 and my jaw about hit the floor. It was advertised correctly, so I don’t know if that’s the market price or what but I guess all the real PUs just went up a bit more
