Mosin sling slot escutcheons

I'm putting the finishing touches on my Type 53 overhaul. I have one last thing: one of the press in type front sling slot escutcheons is loose.

It looks like there are metal tabs on each side holding it into the wood, but I am not sure how to go about tightening it up. Should I get a punch and drive them in a little tighter? Pull the whole thing out and bend the tabs?

Don't pull it out without hearing from someone else. I pulled one out after TRYING to bend the tabs inward and ripped some of the wood on one of my AIM spare stocks. Lesson learned.
